Was riding home today down Dominion Road and noticed how fast scooters get along compared to me on a motorcycle....probably because I have been knocked off commuting on several occasions over the years ( and I'm an old bastard) I used to commute daily in London and it was a lot easier than Auckland...the drivers were more predictable.
Now I watch for cars letting other cars turn right when they are stationary....
And cars coming out of side streets barely slowing for stop and give way signs.
I saw an ambulance city side of Mt Roskill and a scooter on the footpath, I stopped to ask if he/she was ok...apparently ok but a bit stunned. Car had turned right accross the bus lane and scooter was not seen. Be careful out there scooter riders ...bus lanes are dangerous.

Yeah, that is definately something to watch for, get it a lot down Great North Road, but if you're aware pretty easy to spot. You can usually see the gap in the traffic, and usually the car turning too. Just have to assume they haven't seen you, because, well, they won't have and be very prepared to stop.

Sure does. Great North Road from Williamson Ave in Grey Lynn all the way to Swanson Road in Henderson. (with a little detour down Rata/Ash Sts.)

There isn't much covering your ankles, just a little skin and I'd prefer that to remain there, rather than being ground off along the road surface! Turns out I'd torn muscle in my shoulder, but that has mostly healed up, just feel the odd twinge every now and then.

Just waiting for the parts to come in now. I taped my indicator lens back on the meantime so the scoot doesn't look quite so sad lol

I've once went out on my little Vespa in full leather gear. It was fun... to see the reactions of passer-bys

Fun aside, I still wear at the minimum a bike jacket (usually non-leather), jeans, bike gloves and some sort of boots

Since the cager was disqualified, does that mean she was in the wrong? Or do you have to pay your excess for repairs?
Bad luck about the off mate but I'm glad you're ok, and that you wear the right gear, I see so many scooter riders in a sweatshirt, shorts and jandals. Id hate to see the aftermath of an accident with one of them.

Nah, I was still in the wrong because I did the rear ending. As the nice policeman handed me my ticket he said to me "She may be disqualified and shouldn't have been on the road, but being disqualified doesn't mean she's forgotten how to drive" so yeah, still my fault. I did hear the cop saying she'd been disqualified for 18 months, wonder what you have to have done to get that kind of ban?

Luckily my excess is only $100, so not a big deal in that respect, and her car is covered too, although I didn't see any damage on it, I just bounced off it like a rubber ball I think lol.

I know what you mean, I see one chick quite often, always in an open face helmet, mini skirt and heels. Whilst it's nice to look at at the moment, I cringe at the potential for carnage should she come off.

Wow, $100 excess isn't bad, I think mine is about $900 (restricted licence, under 25)

Yeah, I always see people around uni on scooters wearing bugger all. One guy still had the protective plastic over the visor of his helmet, you know, the thing with all the writing about what features the helmet has?

Ouch, that's almost half of what my scoot is insured for. Guess that's the benefit of being an old bugger on a full license. (is mid 30s old? feels like it sometimes lol)

No, it means she clearly can't drive, has no clue as to how to comply with the legal requirements of driving, and should not have been on the road under any circumstances.

Bollocks attitudes like this piss me off. I'd wager that of the two of you, you will be the only one to pay the fine.
