Forgive me if you have already looked into this, but you may be able to do a bridging or pre-engineering course at a polytech or University to bring you up to speed for the actual course work and avoid the need to do NCEA type stuff. I'm pretty sure Manukau Tech (where I did my degree) offer this. It might pay to give them a call.
