Good places to purchase a vehicle in AKL??

    Hey all,

Jess and I need a cage, Whangarei sucks for prices and decent selection, so we're off to Auckland. We need to make a list of the decent places to goto since there are a shitload of dealers in Auck & not enough time to see them all.

We've got a budget of $8k and looking at preferably Toyota's. Wouldn't mind a Legacy or something though.

So please start putting dealer names (Toyota ones?) down so we can add it to the list.
Frosty, we'll be down to see you of course

Morning Ant - IMO an 8k Legacy will cost you 8k per annum to keep on the road. Stick with a Toyota dude.

Have fun though See if you can spot a car that already has the bolt and clip installed for a child seat, or see if you can get the dealer to throw one in. Oh and get a CD player - you can get about 4 hours of wiggles songs on one CD in MP3 format - tee hee.

    My thoughts exactly.
You could pick up a fairly late model Mitsi Lancer for that amount. Nice tidy economical car.

If you have the cash go private sale - it's almost impossible to sell a used car for cash,no one has money, the dealers give them sweet FA as a trade in - if you give them $500 more than the dealer trade in (the $3000 joke) it'll be yours.

Ellerslie Car Fair on Sundays. from 9:00 till 12:00. At the Ellerslie Race Course. Lots of private sellers there with alot of cars. Probably cheaper than the dealers.

Ellerslie car fair Sunday mornings I think (or is it Saturday - it's been a while). It's at the racecourse everyweek.

It's a buyer's paradise and auto check (ownership as well as mechanical) are available onsite (for a fee) and it's a great way to compare cars, one against the other.

It does NOT given you any protections you'd get from an LMVD thought... so look for the lemones.

My bet would be with toyota. Maybe not always the best lookers, but by far the most endlessly reliable. You never expect anything but a start when turning the key.

Signature Range toyotas will cost more than normal because of the extra checks and guarantees (as if you need them)

Usual arguement for private vs dealership (cost v guarantee/warranty/protection) Other than that, don't go for the smaller dealerships. You might pay more for the car from a bigger one, but at least you know they will still be there when you have a problem.

Soo many options tho, Great South Road, Manukau, Greenlane....

I just had a talk to my brother, he imports cars from japan, he will get you what you want or may have something that you like now. Only thing is that he only imports stuff with airbags now after a friend of his was killed.

He has a few cars for around 8k- check out www.globallinking.co.nz, website was done by a guy with bad english, it gets better week by week!Or call Sam 021 55 77 95 or 09 8469 384.
They have pretty good prices from what I have heard he makes on each car (and thats not much!)

Go into a dairy first thing thursday morning , buy a trade and exchange and start ringing, it's the best place to find a bargain, but you need to be cautious about some of the "bargains"

I might just have to see you about something like that soon. When I get around to getting rid of the VR4.
