I think you miss his point. He definitely isn't against having a good time, or even speeding for that matter... he's just a time and place sort of guy.

Yay you're the first person I've used this new icon on. If you had even bothered reading any of his posts instead of jumping on the bandwagon you'd know, as pointed out by imdying above, Katman is not against speeding at all.

    Fail.

So am I these days. Colombo street, past a school wearing nothing but Sidis and a cheeky grin, on the back wheel. What could possibly go wrong?

Interesting. Katman appears to have a bandwagon and you have jumped on it.
Seriously man, I dont really care what he is for or against. If you're asking me to read his dribble.....forget it, what scares me is I think he believes his own shit. They dont seem to have the icon I am looking for here.

No, see what I did was actually read his posts, and found, that while his delivery is not the most tactful approach, I was in total agreement. You on the other hand, by your own post, haven't read his posts and instead let others make your mind up for you.

Then why even bother to mention him in the first place? Trying to get some notoriety?

Yeah.......that must be it because all those that make it big start here. You misunderstood my post, I brought it up as a caution, not because I think anything of him or his dribble.

    Which one?

At the top end (which I'm close to), you use a Baehr communications box, that controls any audio inputs you want (different sizes available, depending on how many sources you have). I have a GPS, CB Radio and Radar Detector all plugged into this. This then feeds via one cable to my helmet. All hardwired so no batteries, but I am connected to the bike (not a bother, I'm used to it). Box prioritises the feeds based on whats plugged in where.

There are similar systems like Starcom that cost a bit less... I use mine a lot, so went for quality. It's also modular and expandable, rather than having two audio devices, one in each ear and then you get a third...

oh... and slow down... it worked for me. Sell your horrible sportsbike and get something more practical that doesn't speed as much...
Hi Gremlin - I'm a newbie and noticed this because what you describe is exactly what I'm looking for.... don't the cops use something similar too?

I was told that the maximum speed from which you can slow down to legal on hearing the alarm is 130kph. That sounds about right, but even 160 to 130 is better than walking.

I use an Escort. Water proofing is not too much of a problem, you can buy a plastic case - but I didn't. If the forecast is showers I use a zip lock plastic bag and rubber band. Not very elegant but cheap. If it's actually raining I don't need the detector, I won't be speeding. These days I probably won't be riding in the rain anyway.

There's a variety of mounts available, as well as local sources ebay will have options. Check for camera mounts too.

What's with all the ancient thread bumps lately?

Are radar detectors legal in NZ? Over here they are illegal to even own, let alone to use.

We're a bit more civilised - so far. They're still legal although one Minister of Transport a few years back thought they shouldn't be, but then he thought using a cell phone while driving was OK.

Hadn't noticed the thread was ancient, I'll have to start checking.
