CBR600RR - firing on everything but all fours

Old man has an '03 CBR600RR, has a nice Arow pipe and power comannder. Lately its been dropping cylinders, riding along on all 4, then 3 or 2 or 3 or all four. No warning will be on all four then 3 for a bit and back. We've taken it to two local shops, 1 replaced all plugs, as they thought it could be that, which is wasnt in the end. The next one had the equipment to plug it in and see what it was doing. Theyve now disconnected the power commander. Is it known or common for Power Commanders to crap out? Its only arrived back tonight so havent been for a ride to know if there still is a problem, the shop say there isnt and its all fine now, but find it strange for power commanders to just stop working properly.

Like all aftermarket electrical accessories, PC3 installations can suffer from poor quality workmanship, specifically not pushing the connectors home fully, and not correctly earthing the unit out. IME most PC3 problems relate to either of the two, generally the latter. Another thing to look at is the TPS pickup; if it's a wiretap type, a bad fitment can cause noise in the signal which confuses it.

The PC has been on for 7 years, fitted when the bike was new, and the bike has done less than 18,000kms since new, so kinda surprised that it has only standard doing this now.
