Thumbs up Which pants and why?

    Greetings fellow riders,

I was unlucky enough to purchase a pair of Tornado wet pants, which are awesome if you are my legs, but crap if you are my crotch. These pants only let water in, in one place and that is the crotch, buggered if I know why as there are no apparent holes or loose stoching. Anyhow, I am going to buy some new pants and was looking for feedback from you guys as to what you wear and why. I am looking to get pants that are waterproof (of course) and are either overpants or regular pants with removalable liners and all the gumpf. Any particular thoughts?

    Cheers
    John

Generally your crotch gets wet because the rain rolls off your tank and pools on your pants. Look to get a pair that don't bunch too much, allowing pooling.

I wear a pair of Re'Vit overpants over the top of my Quasimoto leather pants. All nicely seam sealed and never a problem, even when hailing down.

Oddly enough, I have them today and (going by current weather) will be utilizing their water repelling properties on the ride home.

My usual plug for Rainbird over trousers. Never been wet with them on yet.

This is true - I avoid this issue by pasting a laminated image of a hot naked chick on my tank so I have a constant chubby which has the same affect as a large tent pole.

    Pictures soon .......

Other than actual rain overpants (which are generally good), for high performance textiles, I would say some of the best in the world are the Rukka Armas... but you won't like the price at all.

I usually just use some waterproof over pants from the Warewhare, they do the job well and are cheap as. I also have a pair of these http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/product..._trousers.aspx. They've got all you'd want from proper bike pants, armour, thermal liner, zip up vents and a non slip arse part.
Both are good. The Warehouse pants might let water in the pockets as they just have holes which allow you to reach the pockets of the pants you are wearing underneath, although there is a flap over the pocket and I haven't had a problem with them.

Probably depends a lot on your budget.

Overpants may suit, but if you're after dedicated trousers, I'd recommend "Ixon Climber's". Still waterproof for me and they fit really well. Not baggy or sloppy looking, just a slender nice fit. They have armour, removable liner, but they do require leggings of some kind to wick away moisture. I wouldn't recommend them for all year use, as they are terribly hot in summer. Probably around the $200 mark or a little more.

If budget was not a concern, I'd look for something better and containing goretex.
