Spoke to a guy whose wife bought a vacuum for her cleaning business,they went to Godfreys and sales rep said each machine(domestic) has a lifespan of approx 400hrs,be it a $100 or $1400 machine,only difference is the gizmos with it,so they bought a commercial vacuum (obviously)for $700ish but the motor has lifespan of double hours,and has a few attachments.


Oh and get her what she wants if all else fails,shit it's what they do eh.

I agree, Tellus are reliable. BUT

We have two dogs and a cat. In our world there is ONLY the Dyson.
They are incredible. When we first got it I cleaned the floor with our old perfectly servicable bag cleaner then used the Dyson. I was horrifyed to find the Dyson got more off the floor going second than the bag vac having first go.

They are expensive. I would never buy anything else

We've had our Dyson Classic for about 5 years, (cost about $650?), and recently bought the rotating head for it, ($135). Sounds mean when it's working! And boy does it get the carpet clean! Pet hair no problem! I was a bit dubious about durability at first being plastic, but it's proven completely reliable, the filters never need replacing and are quick to remove and clean periodically, fully washable. It'll probably last forever, or near anough to see us out...

Dysons feel cheap and plastic-y...the handle is at an awkward angle and uncomdortable to use. I couldnt wait to get rid of the POS....

Got a Miele....beautiful quality and good sucky. The replacement bags can be a little difficult to find though, but getting more common to find on the supermarket shelves. T

You can use the genuine Miele bags or the generic replacement, vac-pac. Wherever they sell vac-pac bags you'll fine a guide that will tell you what bags suit your model.

You can get a powerhead for the Meile, or you can buy the cat and dog model. Does just a good job as the Dyson, but is quieter and less fiddly to use.

Each to their own though. But meile have been one of the highest selling brands in NZ for a few years now. Dyson are up there of course.

I am keen on bagless technology, so thats what put me off the miele ones, and the electrolux bagless ones seemed a bit fragile.
had a go when I got home and am very impressed by the amount of shit it will pick up, I had to empty the drum after just the living room, the old one would go for a few uses before it needed emptying.

My wife reckons they fit the dyson with a dust cartridge to impress you more. Bloody big cartridge after 5 years I reckon

actually its not too bad, the new ones are a lot quieter. we had an early one years ago that I got off a rubbish pile (wanted to pull it apart to see how it worked) I gave it a clean up inside and got it going, man was it loud, there was no way you could concentrate on anything else while that fucker was running. anyway we replaced that one with a cheapo Goldair that was louder, and only lasted for 13 months before it was fucked (had already been replaced under warrantee too)
The new one is quite acceptable noise wise, they have a new type of brushless motor that spins up to 19500rpm......
thats what you pay for I guess, the R&D for the flash tecnology that they use.
That and the tooling for those super complex plastic moulded components, it must cost heaps to re-tool the factory.
