OMG - this is KB rite!!!.
The only thing you guys on here know about things that suck, dont involve vacuum cleaners![]()
I was hoping for a response from some chicks, if it was a lawnmower or a bike I wouldnt need to post a poll, would I? got a new mower 2 weeks ago, now my love needs a new vacuum, but I want to get a decent one.......

Bought a brand new Tellus 30 years ago - still going strong. You could trade your vacuum cleaner in on the latest high tech unit every year like a motorcycle...or you could buy something that looks classy the older it gets.
I bet you cant get anything to last 30 years today

You want to get one with a variable suck feature - this is usually a sliding button that allows you to alter the sucking force of the cleaner from light to very high.
This is very helpful when you get you cock stuck up the end of the tube as you can reduce the sucking force and easily extract it.
Or so my friend told me.
You could also do what I have done.
I had a bloody expensive fancy arse Nilfus some time back - I had the fan blades replaced three times under warranty, the engine once and the hose. It was a five year warranty but it completely died after about 8 years.
I now wait until Briscoes have a 50% off weekend and buy a $200 one for $100. They appear to work just as well as the fancy pants ones and easily last 3 -4 years before something needs fixing - then I replace it with another cheap one.
This way it costs around $30 per year for the cleaner. That's a cheap suck.
Bought a tellus GS80 in 1985, rebuilt it once with parts from another Tellus I found in a skip. It's now the shed cleaner, have a built-in Beam system in the house now.
Beam was expensive but very good, amazing how much dust (especially cat hair) it picks up
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Go to Godfreys. Get them to show you something good (that you like the look of).....then negotiate on the shop soiled model they just used for the demonstration!
I agree, Tellus are reliable. BUT
We have two dogs and a cat. In our world there is ONLY the Dyson.
They are incredible. When we first got it I cleaned the floor with our old perfectly servicable bag cleaner then used the Dyson. I was horrifyed to find the Dyson got more off the floor going second than the bag vac having first go.
They are expensive. I would never buy anything else
PS You feel like a stormship trooper clicking everything into readyness![]()

Sorry can't help you.......You don't vacuum a bike.
Ride it until the wheels fall off...
My last two partners have both been more prolific vacuum cleaners than me, so I don't think that a woman is necessarily the best person to ask! My husband bought our Dyson and absolutely loved it. If you have pets, you simply can't go past a dyson, but you have to get a motorhead version. No, that's not one that plays heavy metal to keep you entertained whilst you do the housework - the head has a motor in it that spins brushes and it absolutely deals to pet hair on carpet. I would never have anything else now.
See post below...
Yes, and ohhh yes!![]()

Miele S5211. Excellent cleaner, incredible suction, german built, not fiddly and as expensive as Dyson. They are a bagged cleaner (unlike Dyson and most new Electrolux models) which means yes you have to replace bags, but also means less hassle when it's time to empty.
I worked/work for a major electronics retailer, so I have industry knowledge.
