Hmmm I read this post yesterday & found a couple of gems in a sea of shit.
I haven't got time to read up the latest but I'll be watching.
As a foundation member of the BEARS I know a few things about the early days & fuck all about the last 20 years.
As someone said a long time ago we've created a monster it's not ours to control...
(or words to that effect)
What's the point?
For Dennis & Gaynor's sake if nothing else

I havent trolled through the posts that follow yours but Im of exactly the same opinion Bruce. It seems a nonsense to run seperate events ( politics notwithstanding and maybe some prejudice ) when we only have a tiny population. European bikes especially are a lot stronger in the race scene and its great to see them mixing it with Japanese bikes.
Please do troll through Robert - paying attention to what kickaha & I have said.
The NI scene as it stands is vastly different from the original intent - and how things stand in the SI.
There is wide tolerance in NZ for "alternative" lifestyles, surely we can accomodate BEARS in our programmes - after all it is the only NZ devised class to ever have a World Championship - with an NZ rider on an NZ built bike winning.
Wanna see that Go Jeff
He still needs to qualify for that badge
Its clear you want to add most of the shit by yourself on here .
You may not want to break egos but i see you also dont want to make many friends either . No i am not sad i didnt make your list.
I thought too - BEARS - what's the point? Basically an anti Asian racists bunch of pricks... then I saw the entry form for the Tri Series and I thought - WOW ! What a cool bunch of bikes racing against each other... I wanna watch that!
"...New Zealanders, for all their faults, have virtues that are precious: an unwillingness to be intimidated by the new, the formidable, or class systems; trust in situations where there would otherwise be none; compassion for the underdog; a sense of responsibility for people in difficulty; not undertaking to do something without seeing it through - "

I remember when it first started and there were two schools of thought, those that rode japanese and every body else
Eventually everybody else got fed up with not being catered for at race meetings and wanted to get their bikes back on the tracks
Blame it fairly and squarely on those that did not cater for bears enthusiasts in the first place as they have inadvertantly created this class
Once things get established they tend to stay that way
The "everybody else" was the Classic Register on their pre 1963 bikes and a bunch of orphans on non Japanese bikes who were ineligible for the Classic Register & not competitive with the GP series. Couple this with the fact that the "Three Fools" racing team, John Britten & company on their alcohol burning cast iron Triumphs were making the Classic Register guys feel uneasy about things & there was a kind of vacuum which the BEARS later filled. Originally the BEARS were just happy to be out there doing it,that of course eveolved to what it is today. Mention was made of the "eligibility"of the Britten bike it was welcomed as it was still non Japanese & of course a local production, not forgetting that John & the other 2/3rds of the Three fools racing team were original members of the BEARS. The BEARS of course have taken on a life of there own with I imagine not too many of the original BEARS still around or participating, that is testimony to the BEARS themselves having that special character of their own.
And yes there really isn't anything quite like the song of a Triple at full howl.
LONG LIVE THE BEARS
go to mallory park each year for the festival of 1000 bikes
the sound of a rocket 3 being thrashed on the track takes a lot of beating
ditto the sight/sound of a Triumph Hurricane being give full noise
Tried taking my own bike out and realised very quickly that there are a lot better riders out there than myself
