The BMW, RC8, Aprilla V4 are all pretty knew to the race scene and hardly anyone is racing 1098/1198's here but it's true, they are competitive superbikes now and not the underdogs they used to be.

But to ditch BEARs because suddenly they have become competitive with the jappas is a bit lame since the entire concept of BEARs remains exactly the same .... and I don't need to spell that out although I am aware it creates controversy from the Jap bike riders.

But the simple truth is if you haven't been a dyed in the wool BEARs rider/racer then it's hard to grasp the distinctive and unique passion that BEARs creates.

Anyone that's been to the the annual February SOT at Ruapuna will know exactly what I mean.

Fair comments mate, there is definitely more of a community scene around BEARS racing rather than the collection of individuals that race everything else.

SOT is on my bucket list, don't s'pose a fella can borrow your 996 corse? I promise to go really REALLY slow (like I've got a choice).

    slowpoke its quite simple.

Ego's have to race time too.

Most ride in Bears so they get their much need stroke time.

All the ones whom race in the other classes - bears is like training laps for them.

But the ones whom only race BEARS! Its pretty obvious guys.....

Sorry brutha ... the corse is gone, courtesy of the recession
Kevin Grant is the new owner and I think Dave Cole will race it at the next SOT.

I was only pullin' ya leg Ed, but I'm gutted to hear you had to part with it. I couldn't have thrown leg over it anyway, not nursing the mongrel it would have put in my leathers, I would have done myself a mischief.

At Pacific Round one the BEARS were mixed with clubmans, there was also that pre war BEARS machinery doing 75 kph down the back straight while modern-ish BEAR biks were flat out past it.

Interesting mix for sure but it the BEARS category can be a bit broad and unspecific.

That said, I enjoy the BEARS meetings tremendously. If not only for looking at all these different machines you don't normally see out there.
    I hope there's a future for them.

I don't watch bears racing because it's cruel to make a bear ride a motorcycle......

Ha, thought that would get a bite.

Nevertheless smartass .... we ( my family) have had a generation or two to "think" about things .... and, oddly enough, we still hurt.
And, btw, the Italians weren't big on the extermination bit.

But of cause it's not the real reason why I don't race beemers or jappas .... I simply don't want to.
