    Thumbs up My brakes work!

Yesterday I had a pretty good sphincter-tightening moment when coming back from the New Plymouth Toy Run.

My mate Brian and I were in a line of traffic just West of Turakina. We were just cruising in the traffic with a pretty decent sized gap between myself and the car in front of me. As we started down a slight rise a Suzuki Swift decided that he'd had enough of waiting to turn right and stabbed it after the car in front of me went past him.

Well, she was all on - I hit the picks big time, then probably less than a second after that I was off them again and throwing the Connie to the right. In the end the hard braking and evasive action got me well clear of the car but I did get a good look at all the car's passengers and got the chance to give the Stebel a bit of a workout too.

Luckily Brian was further behind me and he was well clear of the mess but he reckons he doesn't know how I avoided the twat in the Suzuki. All he saw was the car turn across me, the Connie take a big dive under brakes, the swerve and then it was all over.

All I can say is thank goodness for the superb brakes on the Connie (backed up by ABS which didn't kick in) and what the hell did the idiot in the Suzuki think he was doing - somebody take his licence away...

    Know ya brakes people!

Which I'd had my video running (sitting useless on it's mount), someone here may have recognised the passengers doing goldfish impersonations...

Sad thing is they would have seen both the bikes and didn't perceive any risk to themselves, the risk to you is incidental.

How you handled it says a lot about your riding so can at least be happy about that.
