TPTB may decide that you WILL work

I'm sure it'll "help" some out, but the rest hmmmmm

"Chairwoman Paula Rebstock said around 170,000 working age New Zealanders had been on a benefit for at least five of the last ten years.

This long-term benefit dependence has led to intolerable social costs for the individuals themselves, their children, the broader community, employers and taxpayers."

Errrr yeah, because that's what the problem is, not everyone is working stupid fucking people...

"A six-month threshold could also be introduced, at which point a person identified as a high-risk of long-term dependency would be placed in either paid or unpaid work."

"WWG said expectations to look for and accept work could be clearer and more proportionate, and credible and enforceable penalties should be in place."

What, they're just gonna take the placement they're given in light of the consequences ... they're at the bottom of the "pile" and dealing with it and you think enforceable penalties are the way to go... that's a pretty ignorant statement...

Honestly. Does anyone really expect any of that to work?

This one had me in tears

"Suggestions include moving to an insurance model, forcing solo parents into part time work when their youngest child is one, extending ACC to cover sickness benefits and tighter sanctions for those who don't want to work."

my god that hurts my sides... and extending ACC cover to sickness benefits aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaa...

Anyhoo, seems a little communistic to me...
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!

Yeah .. what he said ...

The only thing that is missing is how they are going to create the jobs ... and of course, if everyone has a job (i.e. full employment ) then people will move to better paid jobs .. a shortage of labour will raise the wages .. and oh shit .. we have inflation ...

Have the silly fucken capitalist overlords forgotten that they need unemployment, as a shortage of jobs keeps wages down, whereas full employmnet increases wages ...

Dumb fuckers can't even stick to their own economic ideas ...

It's not exactly easy to find work these days if you don't have a decent qualification, unless you want to sell your ass on the street.

OK, well what do you suggest we do do resolve the multi-generational issue of dole bludgers (multiple instances of three or more generations all receiving welfare, having never done a days work ever)?

When a "safety net" becomes a career option, action must be taken. What percentage of GDP is welfare payments? (I'm actually asking, I know it's fucking heaps but I don't recall the actual stat)

Full employment, IMHO, is inefficient. 170,000 working age people (lets presume 100,000 of them can actually work) is absurd.

Plenty of menial work there if you want/need it. People just refuse to take jobs they consider "beneath" them. I'm proud to say that I've never been on the dole - I took a job that was "beneath" me and upskilled and slogged my arse off to better myself.

For the record, I'm not convinced this idea will be a silver bullet, but at least they're trying something.
