If you would like to access live race timing at
the Tokoroa GP Meeting*, this is how to go about it.
First, you need an app.
If you have an Android phone, you can download a free app called RaceMon by Team TDR.
If you have an iPhone, there will probably be something similar available.
If you have a Windows laptop, there is a free application called RMonitor.exe. If you can't find it via Google, contact Tim Fraser (mit.resarf@gmail.com) and he can email the installation file to you.
If you have a Mac laptop, you're on your own :-)
When you're at the track, get into your wifi settings and connect to "Auckland Buckets". The Auckland Buckets network will normally be active shortly after riders briefing. The wifi key is PORTONACORNER (all in capital letters). It works well along the pit wall, and should probably work in most places in the pits that have a clear line of sight to the timing shed (aka the chook house). The wifi signal is not hugely strong so if you're in your car or facing away from the chook house, the connection might break.
Once you're connected to Auckland Buckets, do this:
If you have a phone, start up the RaceMon app. Press the menu button, and select Settings. Set the IP address to 192.168.0.100 and leave the port set to 50000 (the default value) and then press the Save button. Press the menu button again and select Connect.
If you have a Windows laptop, click Settings then click Communication. Set the IP address to 192.168.0.100 and leave the port set to 50000 (the default value) and then click the OK button.
You should now be able to see the details of any race or practice that is currently under way. This includes who is in what position and their best lap times.
There are a couple of things to note:
1. Live timing is just that - live timing. When a race or practice is not actually under way, there will be no race or practice details on the screen of your phone or laptop. However, we will normally post printed results on the wall of the sign-on shed shortly after a race or practice is completed.
2. The Auckland Buckets wifi network has no internet access. This means that while your phone is connected to Auckland Buckets, it will still work as normal as far as sending or receiving calls or texts are concerned, but you will not be able to access the internet and you may not receive email alerts if you have that set up.
