Is your bike rainbow powered then?
white light is composed of the 7 colours of the rainbow. Blacks and dark colours absorb more of light than white and silver colours. It's a fact. Never heard of "thermal black", maybe it was in that final year physics lecture that I missed....

When you build a new house these days, the colour of paint you use can affect you getting a code compliance. For instance if you put insulclad on and paint it black, you void the warranty issued by the insulclad supplier/installer. All colours in the charts have a light reflective index and they need to be 60 or above. [I think!] The council will /can refuse to issue CCC if this is the case. However, I built a house finished in Linear weather board and it was painted with a special paint called "cool black"

With respect to surface finishes, not all blacks are equal.

We used to paint the barrels on bikes matte black for heat dissapation, I guess that was the motorcycle crossover.
BMW's R90S had matte black barrels, and you can't question Ze Germans, they know best.
