Q for glasses wearers

i'm getting old and have started to need glasses,Have been using $40.00 reading glasses up till now but have just spent $500.00 on graduated specs. The thing is they work ok if i look directly at something (close and distant) but if i move my head or eyes to the side they go all blurry.Is this the norm with specs or should they stay clear and in focus

Definitely not a normal occurence, at least without the consumption of mind-altering substances anyway.

It could just be your eyes adjusting to new specs?. How long have you had 'em?.

They will take a while to get used to. I've had graduated lenses for yonks now and I wouldn't swap 'em for anything. I had one set of bi-focals and they were bastards - I fell down every set of stairs I came to. Have never had a regret with the grads.

Just see if you adapt. It's not that unusual to have a wee spot of bother to start with, according to my opto anyway...

Quite normal with progressive lenses.
Your brain will learn a new trick... and after a couple of weeks, you'll struggle to make them blur.
Progressives are VERY good when you get used to them!

A tip that you may find useful; Put 'em on first thing in the morning - as soon as you wake up. It might help "trick your brain" into thinking this is the norm.

It took me near 2 weeks to get used to my first pair of graduated lense's ...as madness states put them on first thing and the problem will be self correcting ... if your still struggling in 7 days go back to your optician to check the focal point is or magnification is correct .... this one happened to me, sore eye's and headache were the warning signs..

Tricking my brain in the mornings will never work it takes till smoko to start up.One problem is i cant wear them at work he is making me another pair that work short range only for work,so it's going to take a while to get used to the grads Anyhows thanks for the answers

i just got reading glasses, only because the bastards who print the local paper make the words to small

one thing ive noticed is my pool playing at pubs has sucked ever since i got glasses, when i got contacts now i clean up, where i normally would lose.

The optician should have told you it can take a while for the brain to adjust but once that happens you will never go back. Similar to learning to ride a bike - once you learn to ride it is impossible to fall off unless drunk. I can change from single vision glasses to multifocal glasses and multifocal contacts and the brain just sorts it all out.

In a word ...... CONTACTS!

I use contacts when riding the bike but prefer multifocal glasses at the office.

Hahaha, I got some specs for close up work and crashed to the ground like a sack of spuds with alarming regularity, stairs and slopes were an accident waiting to happen. I always stick them on the top of my head now if I'm moving anywhere. I hate getting old, I do really
