    Wof fail

    Moring all,

Just got my WOF Checked which it failed, cause i need to check my front wheel bearing and front forks need oil etc etc so that's easy

but i know this is not a biggie to fix... i just wanted to Rant about it When was it a Requirement to have a Number plate light?? i just noticed on my WOF it said Number Plate light not fitted and failed it ..........

i told him. i had my bike for 3 yrs and they didn't worry about that..... so he just quoted its just who you get..... i think i got a bad apple...... he failed my front tyre due to a small thumbnail wear on the side of the tyre apart was that.. the tyre still looks brand new and still good to go for at least 3 months!!!! - i was so fuked off when he told me, ..

i guess at less i have more than 28 days to get it fit due to Xmas =) =) but WTF tho this guy was a dick!

Think you will find that it has been a requirement for a number plate light for many years. In fact, so many that i can't remember a time when it wasn't.

Yeah number plate light has always been a requirement,as it makes your plate more visible.

Although I don't remember it, I believe that requirement came into force in 1951.

    Wheel bearing...fail.
Forks LEAKING oil...fail. No oil is not necessarily a fail, but it should be.
    No number plate light...fail.

Tyre. Would have to see it, but 'looks brand new, good for at least 3 months' ??? WTF?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

No they don't. Wait, I see what you did there.

It's just a pain these WOF testers like to be annoying. Why can't they get a job where they contribute to safety?

(btw, the local testing station round my way has a sign along the lines of "We know it's frustrating when your car fails its WOF, but please don't take it out on the counter staff")

Just to be clear you have 28 days to have it retested or pay another fee
You dont have 28 days to not fix the issues and keep riding

That being said I need to go warrant the car and I hope I dont get a pedantic bastard

Correct. Post up a pic of this 'thumbnail' wear if you want another opinion.
    Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

Seems reasonable to me to fail a bike because of wheel bearings, forks, and a damaged tyre, I'd rather not share the road with a bike that's about to fall to bits. Number plate light is required by law http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/ro...uirements.html although I don't think anybody ever checks if it actually illuminates your number plate.

I hope he checked if you've got a rear reflector as well....

    That sums it up.

The only fail here is riding a bike with all of those faults.

You can get yourself a trailer number plate light from pretty much any auto parts store. Wire the two wires from it to your taillight (not your brake light!) and you're done. They're ugly, but cheap and easy to fit/remove.

Other options include bolts with LEDs built into them. A little more pricey, but a more final solution.

Just what sort of tail light cover does your bike have? The oem part would have a built-in clear portion on the underside.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
