Red face Speedometer working, odometer not

    Hi there,

I've owned my first bike for just over a week as you can tell by my user name, it's a 2005 Suzuki gz250 and has barely been used in the last couple of years.

Out riding the other day and the odometer stopped working even though the speedo still goes.

Not quite sure what to do and a bit scared to start pulling stuff apart without knowing what I'm doing, any help would be appreciated!!

Great! You can resell it as new

But srsly. What type? If its the old clock type one and not digital I cannot help. If its digital I can say what the problem is. IT IS poked. Unless you know someone who can rework GPUs and motherboards.... then maby then it may be repairable.

It's the old clock type one which is what makes me think it'll be something minor, I just don't really know how they work and the manual I downloaded was pretty useless.

Cheers anyway, hopefully someone will come along soon with a genius idea!!

You'll have to take the instrument cluster to someone who specialzes in these things, like http://www.robinsoninstruments.co.nz/ .

The speedo and odo are driven from the same cable - given that your speedo still works we know the cable is OK. Sounds like your odo is jammed or broken....you MAY get away with unjamming it by giving it a sharp smack or two if it is a piece of gunk in the mechanism, but there's no guarantees that if it frees itself it won't happen again or cause more damage.

Plastic gears on those odometers are fucked by the sounds of it. Take it to a decent instrument repairer and see what they can offer. Lots of dicky little bits to lose or break in there if you start pulling it to bits yourself.

As WT said, but before you do that, try reseting trip. (i presume it has one) had issues once, when for whatever reason when you zeroed the trip while moving it would lock odo. By depressing/ reseting trip a couple of times while stationary it would come right.

Went for a ride today and it worked for 5km at some random point so will check out some instrument specialists.

    Cheers for the help!
