Media player - funny colour

Just brought a media player. Moved all my movies etc off my pc to an external hard drive. Problem is some of the movies have green and purple blotches all over the screen. Not a tech person but guessing I haven't set something right. anyone know??

I'm guessing that you mean a media player to plug into your TV screen? And that the green and purple is on the TV screen?

Is it a CRT TV? eg an older style one?

Yip, that should be the problem, just updating the codecs, its sounds like that the player you are using doesn't support that file and is forcing it to play, therefor display those colors.......
