it was just an example mate,20 years is a long time ago,10 years ago Daves MB100 and Jasons KE100 were making 25hp so thats only 20% if your making 29.6hp,which is alot, but at the end of the day you can claim all the top end power you want but if you don't win any thing or cut out some fast laps it don't mean shit, but good luck to all the fast two strokes, and Daves little derbi 80s,

    She is dead

Just got it jetted mint on the track and the bottom end locked up. Live fast die young isn't that how it goes.

I will post a warning about running Akunar crank pins later but that is the second one to die with about 1 hour of riding on the clock that I know of. Stay away stay away. The engine design is a winner just need to do the crank the old fashioned way. 1 more beer and I will go put old faithful back in.

    Merry Christmas.

    1 - drops a valve
    2 - breaks a tappet
    3 - spits a shim
4 - breaks the cam chain
5 - shags the cam chain tensioner
    6 - some other 4-stroke drama . . . . . .
so it must have been #6

Bugger! So close to TRRS too. Hope the old one goes well for you at Taupo. Keep the rubber down this time and you'll be rockin'.

Is it the pin or the bearing that fails?

I was going to get one of their offset pins but a mate in engineering advised me to check the hardness on the pin before we did any assembly

The split bearing is the problem. We checked the pin it was mint. Hard as feck.

I have an offset pin made by "Heat Treatments" in my MB. The finish wasn't what I was hoping for but it's done OK so far. It's assembled up with 22mm bearing and thrust washers between the MB crank wheels. It only has 20mm ends but 22mm in the middle, offset .75mm. It also has a hole in the middle of a certain size which is what I used to alter the balance factor of the crank.

All good. Thats what you get for cutting corners and rushing a build. The next one will be better. I think that if we want to keep up with the likes of you on the HP front a new base engine is needed. I like the look of the YZF -R 125. It has a massive stroke is water cooled and injected.

I think you're onto something key to the whole end game. With the FXR you are starting with a "budget" commuter. The YZF is more performance oriented to start and therefore maybe a better base for a performance build. Plus I like Yamaha bikes. They just seem to be a better built machine, though you do pay for it.

The key will be the cylinder head design. Layout and how big you can go with the valves. Also the bike its self is a really good base for a bucket. For one the wheels are the correct size for the slicks we use. Also they have great ground clearance they are quite stiff and so on. Oh and look cool. They are the future for the 4 stroke lovers among us.

"all-aluminum cylinders made by YAMAHA’s proprietary aluminum die casting technology. An aluminum alloy with 20% silicon content is used to create a very hard, reliable cylinder surface, making conventional iron sleeves obsolete. As a result, the entire cylinder can be made of aluminum,"

(Briggs and Stratton lawn mowers did this with a chromed piston and rings)

    Yep.

They cost just under 10k in nz. If you know anyone in India you could pick one up new for around $2800

Also Derbi do one similar. Derbi Engine has a dry clutch even.
