    First roundabout cutoff

Had my first cutoff at a roundabout last night. And I could just see the look on the girls face expressing SIDSYM! Could see them coming so already adjusted my speed just in case and was going only 10km/h when they hooned passed a metre or so in front of me without giving me way.

This was followed by me following them down a good few roads and them starting to get a bit scared (got to love the big armour shoulder pads, must make you look quite menacing). Got to a stop sign and I stopped next to them, decided I won't be becoming a road rager and gave them the thumbs up and drove off.

Needless to say when I got to my next destination it was *555, followed by "report a bad driver" on the police website

Phew gets your heart racing though, but guess I had to come across some time sooner or later, albeit 10 days since my first ride (but 1000km under my belt).

So you had 'a feeling' huh? Always listen to the voice/s...now you know why.
    Good stuff
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Usually when I get cut off at roundabouts it's by big truck and trailer units, they just carry on through and obviously figure that it's too much effort to stop, and you will to avoid getting squashed. Happens on an almost daily basis where I drive/ride.

Good effort thinking ahead for what the other idiot drivers might do.

Ahh but isn't that where you call the company of the trucker and report it directly to his superiors. I'm sure they won't look on it quite as casually as the driver does, giving the company a bad name

You say "first" as in you want more

good on ya for trusting your instincts though. I know a lot of people who would have been like naaaah they've seen me and been a bit worse for wear!

Good on ya too for dialing *555 etc, not likely to do much excpet they get a letter in the mail, but at least it might make them think twice next time...

Haha, not that I want more. Just sadly so inevitable I'm sure. Now it's time to wait for someone to run a red light...

Only been through 3 traffic lights on my bike so far though ... not that I'm avoiding them...

Wait until your at the lights and your "spidey sense" goes off.

Seen it happen a couple of times, green light goes, you stay put for a bit and WOOSH a car goes flying through cos they're tryna catch an orange.

Always look both ways when crossing roads! haha

Good instincts grasshopper. You have made a promising start. As biking becomes easier though, don't let your guard down.

    "Clevedon" roundabout by chance?
Be wary of that bastard, it gets more than it's fair share of Herald coverage.

Haha, no it was a much bigger roundabout. The first in Papakura coming from Clevedon with the big shell next to it. So you know... Papakura drivers , though apparently according to State insurance my car resides in Papakura overnight so I get a great increased premium.

Fuck'n bureaucrats with their retarded addressing system.

    +1

Always be looking down joining roads. Know what's going to try to squish you

    Scary innit?

I had one on my way home yesterday.
Approaching the round about (on an 80km/hr stretch of road) Check mirrors, nothing of concern, check road to the right - clear, Only traffic was a small truck incomming from my left and a couple of cars about 500m behind me. Truck was stopping. All good. Just about to enter intersection I hear siren. Where is THAT coming from? Quick check nothing to my right, nothing behind me, see police car entering intersection from the hidden side of the truck on my left. Emergency stop in the intersection thinking if he is going left we are ok, IF he is crossing my path we got problems. Policeman obviously saw me, realised I was stoppig fast, waved as he turned left and I followed. Less than a bike length in it though.

Playing Devil's Advocate now ... was thinking about this one overnight and you do need to evaluate if you contributed to the incident by slowing down 'on suspiscion' possibly making the other driver think you were stopping or turning. Not saying you did but I have occasionally been bluffed bar car drivers appearing to set up for something but not actually doing it.
