You will not be able to play overseas games, they are all different Regions, 4 is New Zealand, i think 1 or 2 is US/UK, unless it states region 4 then you can play it,

Unless your x box been modded, you can play any but this would kill your online play cause Microsoft can pick up your console playing overseas or non region games.. cause you to be banned Via Serial then its no more updates/patches etc
    you will see this

Thats DVD regions , games are different..... NTSC-J (Japan etc) , NTSC-U/C (Merkin etc) , PAL (Euro / Aus / NZ etc)

Not sure where other countires align to, but anything with PAL on the disc will work on a NZ Machine.

    First of all, read this!

    1. REGION-FREE = the xbox WONT complain.
    2. NTSC = Television version
    3. PAL = Television version

Now, if you buy a game from UK that is Japan NTSC and region free, (for example) then the TV must be a MULTI region to play in NZ (PAL/NTSC).

95% of all tv brands are MULTI REGIONAL (NTSC 50/60Hz, PAL 50/60hz and some SECAM)

So, the NTSC, PAL and region-free games are just for the xbox360 regional limitations, so it can play or NOT! I buy games of ebay, from all over the country. and learn the hardway, so again, if its not Region free! you can't play it

The link is good, but looking at it can be a bit tech for some people who just want to know the answer.....

I appreciate what your saying, but from experience (until recently I modded/repaired xbox's and xbox 360's) I think you're slightly wrong on your region information.

You are right about region locking, but the regions are aligned with the Pal/ntsc-j/ntsc-uc areas of the world. So without having to modify your Xbox 360 you can play any game of the same , if the game is another format/region than your console, it will play if not region locked.

pal games got to be region free, if not brought from NZ/AUS

if your TV is MULTI REGIONAL (NTSC 50/60Hz, PAL 50/60hz)

then you just need Region free

Your games that you brought, must of been region free, cause i brought some from UK and they were locked, =( but i don't have a xbox360 anymore, i changed to a PS3 best move ever... online gaming so much better when its FREE! =)

Maybe. Could be that the 360 was from the UK and didn't mind playing NZ games. At least you made the brave step and moved on up to the PS3... i still can't get past the benchmarking stats and would dearly hate to buy an inferior games machine

Yep, all pal games work (as all countries that sell pal games/consoles are considered the same region for 360 games). Obviously DVD's regions are adhered to differently.

There are websites out there which will tell you what games aren't region locked, these ones you can buy from ntsc based countries - as long as your TV is capable of displaying the NTSC(/J) colour system.
    Ciao Marco
