    Hello CHCH 11/12 June

I am flying to Christchurch for the weekend 11/12 June. My wife has a conference on and I am using some airpoints and tagging along. I would like to hire a bike and check out some of the local roads. Anybody any advice on the best/cheapest place to hire a bike? (I have sent off emails to a few of the bigger companies that are on the net) And whats your favourite road - Akaroa? any suggestions welcome

Re: bike hire, never needed to here but p/m or no doubt he'll be along soon Biff, he had a mate recently hire a VFR800vtec from somewere in town.

Re: a road, well this time of year ya dont want to head inland so Akaora might be the best bet but even that will be a cold trip and there will be grit on the rd at a guess.
    cheers DD

If you want a bike, you can use mine of course after you see it you may rapidly think that it was a bad idea to even consider that option in the first place

otherwise try here http://www.motorcycle-hire.co.nz/ you can even get a F650

ph number is in my user notes give me a call when you get here

Akaroa is a nice day ride although there's lots of traffic on the weekends or head North through the Weka pass to Waikari across to Scargill,Greta Valley and back to Chch, another one would be across Porters pass and over to the Bealy pub

Just one word of advice, don't listen to a word Dangerous says
"If you can make black marks on a straight from the time you turn out of a corner until the braking point of the next turn, then you have enough power."

I always like the inland rout Highway 42. Out to Amberly then cut in to the inland rout thrugh both gorges then swing back and come out at Rakia and home. It's got a bit of everything

.Give these guys a go They have a nice selection of bikes.
As for a ride, if your leaving from town and want to hit the twisties straight away then Akaroa is the go. If you've got a bit of time and don't mind cruising in a straight line for a bit then Weka Pass/ Scargil/ Greta Valley is a great ride. If you've got heaps of time you could head for the Arthurs Pass. Or do the Lewis/ Arthurs loop (throw in Westport as well if you're really keen- the coastal road from Westport to Greymouth is fantastic.

Hang on- June.... passes maybe not such a great idea, unless you don't mind ice grit...

Thanks for the tips guys. I probably wont have time to go as far as Arthers Pass, save that one for a better time of year weather wise. Drove over there in a cage last winter, it was pretty marginal (but very scenic!) Looks like Akaroa will be the most likely at this stage

Thank you for the kind offer. I think I would rather hire one to keep things on a professional basis (with insurance etc) in case of the unlikey event of an incident. But I will bear it in mind......

Well. if you did borrow the XJ and crashed it, its not likely that Roger would be able to tell anyway?

Actually.....I have a soft spot for ole XJs.....I am old enough to remember drooling over them when they were new and totally unaffordable to young fellas like me.
So I was tempted by the offer!
