    Rider size for 125gp

    hi all,
I'm considering my options about what racing class to get into. I really like the idea of this class firstly becasue i will learn alot about riding, and secondly because they are allowed to be modified (unlike ss). My problem is that im 5'7 and around 80kgs. Can anyone who's ridden them competively tell me if this is gonna be a problem or not. thanks

Only if you want to be competitive. You'd be giving away a good 25kgs to some other riders. That's a lot of horsepower lost.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Ideally you would want to be about the size and weight of Pedrosa's shadow.

Tim McArthur, Jaden Hassen, Kurt Pritchard and Alistair Hoogenboezem are way taller than that
and have been stunningly fast in the last few years. (A few lap records and championships between them.) The 80 kg is a bit of a prob tho, these riders mentioned more likely 70 -75. You should still get in the 5's OK at Teretonga on a bog std bike without much problem. That's quick enough!
Talk to Kev Goddard as well, he knows heaps about this, and is pretty quick himself.
And he aint as light as 80kg.....
Nick Cole rode a 125GP at 6ft and 100kg and boy, did he go as well!

    Hi.
Call me on Dunedin 4544016 and we can talk about it or arrange a ride for you.
Petes right, I am a fat bastard but can still do OK on one of these....They are the most awesome bike to ride and the lessons learnt on one of these will set you up for all your future riding.
Another invercargill lad that rode one and was not exactly a skinny arse or light weight was Ashley Weller and he ran top 5 or better in the nationals.

Some people are frightened of a 125GP because of the money they hear being spent
But it's same in most motorsport, each second a lap costs ten times as much as the one before. And if you're 4 seconds a lap off the pace, it's mostly the rider that needs the work, not the bike!
back around 2003, after my son Dom got 5th in the championship on an ancient '92
model, we bought a really good '96. This is now the Tim Mc Arthur champ winning one. A month later we were offered an awesome deal on an '01 from auction in Japan, which we bought. (Thanks John Beck) At the time there was only one other of this generation, the '08 that Dennis Charlett rode trying to round up the legend, Steve wArd (which didn't acheive! Steve IS that amazing) That '01 went on to challenge Midge Smart, English No3 at the time. Since then it has won two championships, with any Evans and Al Hoogie, who still has it.
That year Dom rode the '01 and we kept the '96 as a reserve bike, but for fun this old man in mid forties decided to ride it. i did 26 races and did nothing to it but change reeds, piston kit at 800km etc and it was faultless. Dom and I scored 1,2
1,2 and 1,3 in the Canterbury champs that year. I never once changed the settings or jetting that year (pretty bad eh)
In the nats Dom took it out to test at Manfeild with no changes and in a few laps did 203km/hr on the straight. As fast as anything.

What I'm saying is, don't be scared of a 125 GP bike. They are great to ride, and, in the right mind frame, fun and easy to look after. They are a tru GP bike designed for one purpose alone, that is VERY special

Your be all good, your weight will be a problem for the last couple % on one. But you can fix that as you go along, as you'll realise you need to get a bit fitter to cope with racing. Give it a go with Steve Ward, he and Kevin Goddard are the people to talk to down south for 125's .
