My brand new whip - 1969 Renault 10

I've been in Aussie for four months now, for all the monies I've earned it seems to have gone into debt repayment and paying for expensive requirements like a new laptop, flashy DSLR camera, airfares to Malaysia for MotoGP etc... and probably about 3-4K worth of trans-tasman travel

Anyway, basically I've been spending most of my time off being productive and working towards my pilots licence which has lead me to the situation where I don't have the need or the time for a modern sportsbike like I was intending/hoping would be the case. I do have a Vespa ET2 50cc to use if I see the need for it, but after being restricted to 52kmh for all my travels over a two month period I was about ready to commit suicide. So i was browsing ebay for cheap bikes as you do when I though "fuck it, have a look for a cheap car" - thats when I found my new wheels. Yep, a fandangled four wheeler it is.

I went against all judgement and advice and bought it sight unseen with only a few obscure internet car reviews to go on. $850 later and there was a guy at my door handing me the keys to my new ride and running me through all the hows, whys and wheres of the little beast - some quite friendly people here in Adelaide.

So here it is, my 1969 Renault 10 - 1109cc and 50hp of rear engine, rear wheel drive, French magnificence.

I once bought a Renault 15 for $30. It had a good battery and a tank of fuel. Once the fuel tank was empty I felt it would be over-capitalising to fill it up.

    Good times

That looks nice. How does it go?
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

No. Sorry to dissapoint but you'll have to look elsewhere. It actually does quite a good job of getting attention from the ladies.

Gonna start with a cam, new exhaust and maybe dual carbies first. If those motor dies then I'm thinking MR2 Supercharged motor or converting it to electric - there is a shitload of space up the front for batteries

It's in the pipeline, next day off in Adelaide isn't until January 14th!

Starts first pop, runs smooth. It's no rocket ship but it gets me around and it doesn't get left behind in traffic - can't say the same for the scooter.

I've been trying to get it to step out but I'm obviously not being mean enough. Gonna try and fins somewhere obscure to give it a rip at some doughies. They crush your car if you get caught over here!

    Why?

That's a lot of money on toys - and not a bike amongst them ...

Still got my TRX850 back in NZ which will be getting a new exhaust for christmas as well as a dyno tune/run and a tickling by Robert Taylor in the new year.

Next year I'll be taking advantage of the new cheaper fares from Adelaide to Auckland and will be hitting up Hampton Downs and Taupo hopefully once every 2-3 months.

If I get a bike over here it's going to be a 1970's Honda CB twin of some description - I've already got a project/design in mind but just need a suitably priced platform to start the work on. For now the priority is getting into the flying more, saving a deposit for a house and some travel with MotoGP/WSBK events tied in the mix! Already sorted for Phillip Island with 'gold' tickets including pit walks on two days and complimentary food and beer, and you know I'm gonna get my monies worth of beer.
