He's a great guitarist alright, but obviously hasn't heard of 'less is more'.

I like Dave Gilmour and Jimmy Page, but there are others people probably wouldn't even think of, like Lindsay Buckingham on the live versions of "Go Insane" (fantastic acoustic solo complete with lots of harmonics) and "I'm So Afraid". I also reckon some of the guitarists David Bowie's had playing for him, like Robert Fripp for his "Scary Monsters" stuff (very technical), and Mick Ronson (who also played for Lou Reed on "Transformer").
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

So many to choose from, sigh.. all with totally different styles

Add anything by Brian May or John Lee Hooker to that list.

Mark Knopfler's riff from the NASCAR song (Nazareth or some title like that) takes a lot of beating

I like Brian May's solo in "It's a Kind of Magic". Without that solo that song would be sailing at maximum cheese factor, Mr Sulu.

But Wes Montgomery, Django Rheinhart, or Kazumi Watanabe would own most of the guys bought up so far.

At the risk of getting shot at by the big guys .... I like Neal Schon's stuff from the "Double Eclipse" CD ... especially the "Dr Love" track ... it rocks !! His hard edge really comes through after years with Journey and their soft rock !!

Also Sammy Hagar and his "Mas Tequila" track off the "Red Voodoo" CD

Brian May is a stand out for what he can do on his guitar without effects. The brass jazz band on Night at the Opera was mind blowing - all his guitar, even the slide trombone.

Until I started to play the sax I never realised that what I thought were guitar solos on the first Roxy Music album were Andy McKay's oboe.I'm pleased to see so many putting up David Gilmour - never has so much been said with so few notes,a counter point to all those oh so fast guitarists.

Hendrix with the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock must be the benchmark of all time.

Recent times Eddie Van Halen has done some awesome solos.

What if heard recently that guy thats in Velvet Revolver called Slash. He used to be in some other band to do with Guns.
