Go start a thread I reckon... I'm sadly off topic as it is. (sorry)
I've seen Dennis Chambers on two continents and here in NZ and he's a horrible soloist. Uninvolving, uninspired, and deeply aware of his own "stature" within the drumming community. Steve Smith on the other hand is humble, clever, and profoundly good in both a solo setting or group environment.

Stop apologising. Drummers are far better people and musicians than bloody guitar weenies. Just trying to keep things off topic.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Geez Motu - you must be really old!! (Like me...)
How about Carlos Alomar playing with David Bowie - Width of a Circle (David Live at Tower Philadelphia). Sounds like every note came from the depths of his soul. Awesome stuff.
ACC - It's where the Enron accountants all went.

Without a doubt for me it's the solo in "Sympathy For The Devil" by The Stones.
Clever virtuosity with lots of notes can be impressive but using just enough, but not too many, notes is even better.
...she took the KT, and left me the Buell to ride....(Blues Brothers)

Gotta add Gary Moore - Parisienne Walkways, the live version with Phil Lynott from '85. Twelve minutes of extacy!

Children of Bodom have good solos in their songs. I don't think they have a song without one do they?

Oh yeah - forgot about them, which is dumb, seeing as I've got or have had albums by these guys.

Awesome album, that. Used to have it, but gave it away when I went all religious. I've been looking for a copy on CD, but it's not easy to find (except for a high price, on the Interdweeb..)
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

Another highly under rated guitar player is Frank Zappa - just because he doesn't follow the rules doesn't mean he's not any good,he's a very, very, very good guitar man.

    Without a doubt, hands down

Joe Satriani - Take your pick from so many, but my current fav is "Flying in a Blue Dream" although "cool # 9" rocks!"

Stifarms and I went to see him play live at St James just recently and nothing will ever compare to this concert.

I just wanna watch him play live again.....

Joe Walsh doesn't follow the rules either- I'm told he plays using just his thumb as a pick

    Was.

I like his comments in my guitar book: "The electric guitar is the single most blasphemous instrument ever made..."

Have you heard G3 (satch, vai & johnson) play their rendition of Zappa's "guitar wants to kill ya mama"?

No, but sounds like I'd want to
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

How embarrassing, I am sitting at my desk with the Biggest Grin you have ever seen just thinking about listenting to it, the best thing about it (I think) is that Steve Vai's guitarist sidekick - damn can't remember his name - he sings and it rocks....
