I had a quick read through and didn't see (although I could well have missed it) someone who should be on here, angus young from ac/dc. Thunderstruck, man that is such a good effort, even though its not complicated keeping that up for the whole length of the song is amazing. He does some very nice work in alot of their other songs too.

Also rate slash from G&R, rate alot of their songs highly aswell. Jimmy Page is another one that needs mention. Although all of these guys are before my time, so haven't really heard of any other old skool guys.

Another multi talented guy is Dave Grohl (Nirvana drummer, Foo Fighters lead singer/guitarist and various other appearances), damn good singer/songwriter and foo fighters are mint as.

Nor has anyone mentioned Tommy Bolin or Steve Morse, both of whom have featured in the DP line-up.
Then there's Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower, Les Paul, Hank Marvin, Eddie van Halen...

As for Richie (without a "t", coz that's how he spells it) Blackmore, there are way, way better examples of his virtuosity than what is on Made in Japan (good though it is)

Skyrider - These days Richie Blackmore is playing largely acoustic medievil-inspired folky sort of stuff. Band name is Blackmore's Night.
ACC - It's where the Enron accountants all went.

Those guys can all solo like crazy. In ways that would leave Slash wondering why he took up guitar.

Yep and also produced the whole first foo fighters album by himself (played every instrument etc) and also has appeared for queens of the stoneage and tenatious d on their albums (not in latest queens of stonage album), I'm sure he has done others aswell. Would rate him as one of the most versatile and talented rock musicans in the world currently.
