Expressions of Interest: 2008 KTM 990 SM

2 years of great adventures on Katie, I'm looking at switching brands, to a bike that will continue my shift from only road riding to more exploring. While owning Katie, I've gone from a day tripper to travelling the entire country, but now she isn't quite meeting my needs.

As such, I'm looking for buyers, as I'm not nearly flash enough to own both bikes, so one has to go before the other can come on in. She's fitted with a lot of accessories, some permanent, some not, so the price is flexible, depending on how you want her configured (those not wanted would be transferred to the new bike - saves installation costs for you). I'm looking in the teens as a price guide (depending base bike or full kitted - as I would have to buy replacements for stuff like GPS etc)

Yeup, she has clocked up a few km, been on her side a couple of times, has a bit of cosmetic damage, but servicing has been fastidious (all receipts have been kept, except for one, think its missing). If things needed to be replaced, they have been done. Murphy's law says with my luck, it would break in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, so I never wanted that to happen. The vast majority of mileage has been open road, as another bike is used for commuting. Cape Reinga 3 times, Bluff once, and another South Island trip (TT2000) and 3x Grand Challenge (2nd home in 2010). Hasn't missed a beat during all these big rides, only blown a few headlight bulb filaments (because I run extra bright ones).

    Current list of modifications:
KTM Axle Sliders (front and rear)
    KTM Handguards
    Oxford Heated Grips
KTM 990SMT Baggage Carrier (to mount Top box)
Givi Fitment Plate (to mount Top box)
    KTM Touring Screen
    Scottoiler
    Wings NOS CEC Exhausts
    Givi 990SMT Pannier Racks
    DNA Air Filter
    KTM 990 SMT Seat
GME TX4600 UHF Transceiver (hard wired into bike) and associated aerial
Baehr Verso XL (with associated cables for GPS, Radar, UHF Radio)
Beltronics STI Radar Detector + power cable
Garmin Zumo 550 + power cable
Uprated Hella H4 +90 headlight bulb
    LED light strips on Handguards
License plate has been glued to a sheet of perspex because the first license plate broke
Tyres are currently Pilot Road 2's, probably not even a thousand km on them
Wof and Rego expire October 2011

I think that's the complete list... I'll link to some pics later tonight, but a ton have been posted all over the place...

I'm also open to trades, if you have a 2006+ R1200GS Adventure, lets talk

Ok, some pictures are up. They are just from file... I uh... seem to ride the bike more than photograph it (who woulda thought eh?)

If you want a particular shot of anything, I can take in high res and email.

Stripping off stuff like GPS, Baehr, Radar, and leaving a base bike, I'm thinking around $12k.

    Come rob me

    Not bad, 50% correct.
    3. Okarito from memory, mate dropped his bike on the beach, and claimed it was my fault
    4. Mt Eden bikini bike wash. Photographers advantage

Yup, subject to riding, (standard GS today), then try find a adv, its the next bike. Big electrical system, massive fuel range and a better seat for thousand km rides. Big electrical system allows more lights, so 2x driving, 2x fog, plus standard low and high beam.

Probably the better bike for the really big rides I do, and a little better off road.

Which part do you want a close up of? The tank? The cockpit?

I may have mentioned, with my wife on the back we rode a GS from Holland to the top of Norway and back, Open motorways sweeping country roads, tight passes and a bit of loose gravel for fun...took a little getting used to but after that, I have nothing to say against the bike.
