    Vanuatu for holidays?

So what is Vanuatu like as a holiday venue? We're pretty set on going to Rarotonga this winter but I've seen a couple of holiday packages to Vanuatu for more days at less dollars so am wondering a little...

I went there last year .. and it was awesome .... did not do a full deal with all meals included and did not stay at a flash resort ... but did it perfectly for what we needed.

Place had a pool, bar and resturant and was what the doctor ordered.

Took some books and got some more there ... not the worlds cheapest place - but I thought was reasonable.

We did three tour type things - 1. round island .. that was great ... 2. malesian (sp) feast - AWESOME!!! 3. went diving - but not with the main group but a smaller company in a private area - cost more but well worth it.

let me know what you are looking at.

The island of Santo north of Efate is apparently worth the extra journey. Not quite Honolulu but I've heard it's beautiful.

My parents went, my Dad said the snorkeling was fuckin' pimp. I don't think they have any complaints at all. If you wanna know something more specific just ask eh.

    I´ve been twice

    Loved it!

Both times I went I only went to Efate though. Next time I´d go to Espirito Santo as well.

I went diving, snorkelling, tramping. Did the Melanesian feast and the usual tourist things as well as shopping.

We stayed at Blue Water Resort (Nor-East of Port Vila) then Hideaway Island and at the Melanesian Resort in Port Vila.

Watch out for the dreaded (almost inevitable) food poisoning. Drink plenty of bottled water.

The popular dive sites are probably destroyed by people standing on the coral. I was quite shocked at the devastation to the coral when I went back the second time...

    Enjoy

Any where you decide to go is what you make it. Are you going to laze around and read a book? Go scuba diving? Do activities?

Vanuatu is exactly whatever you want your holiday to be. Port Vila is an absolute shit hole and one visit is plenty. I cant believe the cruise ships still go there. The diving on Efate I did was with a private small firm and was pretty good but it is main island diving - if you get what I mean.

Would I go back. Hell yeah! It was different and I want to go to Million Dollar Point and dive the Coolidge. Maybe not this year but its on my bucket list.

When there we were very fortunate to pick staying at the hotel where the US Peace Corp people were staying when they came off the Islands. Bloody fascinating chats around the pool. You wont get that in Rarotonga. It was not full of NZ and Aussie tourists and that meant we were kind of treated pretty well
