I didn't notice any sandflies either ... the mosquitoes however! I'm sure the bloody things tried to carry me away during the night. I woke up Sun morning bitten all over. The last of the bites is nearly gone now.

It might not be as psychedelic now as you recall

The only place in New Zealand with twin engined mosquitos, (and sandflies.)

Well its just my 10c worth.

How's about Kaiteriteri? Heaps to see, very near to the Takaka hill road, nice weather, close to the north island so some of the northern riders can turn up, close to farewell spit, no sandflies, I know its touristy but its that for a reason.

It certainly is a great wee spot... Is there reasonably cheap accommodation available, and are there close neighbours that could be inconvenienced?

There is a place over the back where they have school camps etc...I'll check it out this week. There's also some super places down the sounds, but as you say....the Takaka Hill.

I was referring to the insex, not the hairyplanes.

Cheers, is that on the back road that swings through the hills back onto the hill road? I grew up in this area but some of the details have been lost over the last 40 years.

Even the ride to say Collingwood for lunch is a great trip, the small restaurant in the old hall is fantastic. I will be picking up a supply of carrot and mustard seed chutney from upper moutere on the way back. There is also those 2 big springs pupu and the grotto (I think it is called) that are worth a look.

The Takaka hill has to be the best bit of motorcycle road in the country.

Not that a date has been chosen yet, but it doesn't matter what date is chosen, any date will be "difficult for some". So moving from one date to another will probably just pass the "difficulty" on from one person to another.

Personally I can manage most dates these days, now that the kids have grown up and are doing their own thing, so the actual date doesn't really bother me. However I do like the end of year timing of the event as it fits nicely after the last of the years rallies and before the new years rallies, the weather is usually good, and it's a good "let your hair down / wind down" from the year that's been.

    Any date will do me

    Or maybe not

But as long as there's an early enough warning about what date IS picked.
