Why don't you tell us how you really feel?

I don't hate them, I pity them. they're still stuck there and I'm working next door in a far better job.

It's no different to any other debt. If you know you owe it then you should pay it. It's called being decent. :-)

draw them a picture and tell them its worth more than $5 so you're giving them a good deal.

Somebody must have a couple of twos and a one in old denomination to send this lad so he can go clear this OLD dept !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

...honesty is one of those strange words that somehow has different avenues to follow, it seems...tell the truth as you see it to somebody and it is an unappreciated intrusion...tell the absolute truth sometimes and be branded a liar... tell yourself down the track in years to come that "I have lived my life as honestly as possible..." but little dishonest realities are overlooked, then, how honest has your life really been...they may be a huge money sucking, rip off corporation, and not worth shitting on, but as Grumph has mentioned, why do something that you have to live with for a long time to come...five bucks is a wank amount for the twats to chase, its also a wank amount to not give back with a smile, and it keeps your integrity intact... something I learned a long way back, was... "everything after, 'but', is bullshit...

If you know you owe it pay it back, but add a comment of I don't mind paying, but thought the times I started early or finished late by 10-15 mins meant I would've thought we're all square, but seems not here you are.

Personally I think the old swings and roundabouts works in cases of when you do work after or before normal seems to equal out at times.I don't mind doing measures/installs after hours,I just ask to finish earlier Fridays,my job means I can arrange that at times.

As mentioned before, it's incredible that they are chasing this - it's cost them more in administrative time and resources than the debt is worth. An indication that their intentions are more punative than pragmatic.

But as others have said, if you were overpaid, pay them back.

The best suggestion I've seen is to pay them $6.00, and tell them to keep the change...

Paid it back today when I went in to buy some food.

The cash office lady apologised to me, said that it had come through from Aukland. Nothing they could do about it.

Good on you . I can't believe you had to do it (regardless of it "being the decent thing to do"). Aucklanders are such pricks eh...(note, as a resident of Manukau I resist being called an Aucklander )

Heh try living 1 hour from Auckland lol.... oh ye you know that!!! I rarely go into Auckland or if I do I pass through on my way to Puhoi (out of season of course)... and the roads are crap out this way... remind me why we pay rates.

Oh ye PB... lovely road works between waiuku and pukekohe, smashed fog light (arg) and chipped windscreen (just replaced it).... I am angry with whomever decides not to sweep the roads after the seal is down... and top that off even more crap on a bike!

Rant Over.... $5 seems minor lol GOOD ON YOU FOR SORTING IT OUT.

Good outcome. Reminds me of the words to a song:
