My old work say I owe them $5. Do I have to pay it back?

I'm probably going too. I pass them on my way to work each day so its not sending me outta my way. I'm just curious.

When I left the supermarket I worked at, they over paid me $5 in Xmas club vouchers. (I had a deduction that came out of my pay each week which I got back at the end of the year as vouchers) Its been over 3 months since I left and received my final pay along with my vouchers.

Any financial lawyers here who can enlighten me?

Stop in with 5 bucks worth of 5 cent pieces or even better 5 bucks worth of the smallest denomination postage stamps you can get if they are still legal tender. Don't forget to get a reciept incase their accountant makes a cock up and says you didn't pay.

If you spent the voucher I suggest you go in, get another voucher, and hand it back saying this is the voucher you owe them! If you have not spent the voucher then give it back, its the right thing to do... and as the dude above says, if you KNOW they over paid you, its only right to give it back.

BUT to me it seems pathetic, the person that stuffed up the vouchers is the one really at fault and you have left!!!!

I find it rather bizarre that an employer would be chasing this three months later. I'd phone and ask to speak to the manager about it.

I am gonna pay them back. If I had to ride into Christchurch from Rangiora then I wouldn't but since I don't and I pass them each day its a bit stupid to not pay them.

I worked at Countdown. Most of the people I worked with were pretty awesome. The managers up in the office were pricks. Luckily for them its a nice person chasing me for the money

I might just do a Clint Eastwood on them, I'd feel pretty cool! Maybe a Rambo and just blow stuff up - I know that would make a lot of people happy

You're too young to be racking up places you can't go back to.....

Pay it with a smile & they'll be happy to see you again.

Realise too that a number of the posters here would never have the guts to do what they're suggesting....

I am stunned that any employer would ask for such a piffling amount back. I had a staff member leave owing us about ten bucks. It didn't take too many brains to figure out the cost of collection was greater than the amount owed. I could earn much more money for my company doing something more productive in the same given time. If they have managerial staff spending more than ten minutes and no paperwork to recover five bucks then they have too many pencil pushers.

I find it hard to believe they would ever chase up $5, it will cost them twenty times that to write you a letter.

You would be within your rights to ask them to justify this $5 debt in writing. Or just pay it and get them off your case.

either ignore it or ask for proper verification and proof of debt - it will be too much trouble for them to follow up on

for $5 they are not going to take you to court - it will cost them far too much time and effort

unless you are currently umemployed and need their reference for a job you have nothing to worry about

Don't take my advice, but tell them to stick it up their arse, twist it so it corkscrews into their lower colon then remove with an alsatian. It'll cost them more time and money than it's worth to chase up, and at worst you get banned from the premises which you already hate. By the sounds you're not going to get a reference anyway.

Sorry, as I said ignore my advice. Just a bad experience my first night working at a supermarket when I was 16. Bunch of facists gave me grief for drinking a can of coke (that I paid for) after they'd made me work through my dinner break. Refer advice above.

If you were overpaid then pay it, you never know when this sorta thing can turnround and bite you in the ass, although they should have settled it in your final pay.
Did you sign a termination agreement? If so there should have been something about all property etc has been returned or something like that.
I do have trouble wondering why they are bothering though, they must have fcuk all else to worry about.

    Pay it move on.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
