I use electricity as an example because that is something I do know about. I do not know about roading, water supplies etc, so can't comment on those ones. However it does show that the simplified claims about where tax is paid, where infrastructure spending occurs etc, whist correct, are also misleading.

Mostly fair enough - I contend that using electricity as your example is misleading in terms of where the infrastructure spend happens but that there may well be merit in the rest of what you say.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

Being an ex South Islander i would still rather ride down there than up here. Nicer people.

    Think of the trees please

And yes I am serious, there was a roundabout proposed for the Hill Street intersection, but it would have meant cutting down 5 or 6 mature Totara trees in the little park there, and as a result the idea was canned.

Just you lot wait till yet another set of lights are installed at the McKinney Road intersection...

i went up to ruakaka on the 27th and the traffic was stopped and crawling several kms from outside warkworth and then same again outside wellsford.
i think a motorway extension wont change the fact that town centres strategically placed along SH routes will always cause this delay. There were hundreds of people stopped at wellsford, parking upto a km from any services, to take a leak, get food, stretch legs etc.
And my god, the moronic parallel parking attempts, parking with boats, caravans etc I saw.
It made me shake my head, at myself! for being so dumb to ride my bike up there at that time of year. i was simply another automaton headed for a "stress free" holiday.
duped by the govt who insists we should vote for them next time, because they have improved our lives so much with the new highways to which GST and petrol tax had to go up to pay for. And toll roads, don't forget the Puhoi tunnel is just the beginning.

    i'm fairly 'greenish' minded,but,
    screw half a dozen trees.
what about the litres of fuel wasted at hill st,
also the tonnes of carbon from all the parked up vehicles.

Agreed, SH1 through that region is utter rubbish. Heading North, got stuck 2 kms or so before the tunnel and went at walking pace all the way into warkworth before it cleared up a little. So much for all that money spent on the new road layout...talk about a flop.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.
It takes a big man to cry...and an even bigger man to laugh at that man.
