Not sure what the fuss is about. I haven't had an Xmas holiday for 20+ years and would love the opportunity. Have family in the deep South and an Xmas with them would be luxury. Hop on a plane and there i am. No fuss, no bother. Traffic density is what it is. I rode in it over the New Year and just went with the flow. Still don't have a problem with it, and if i did, I just wouldn't go that day. Easy really!

Ride your own ride, pass when safe and be aware, aware is the key.

Stat hols are a myth, heaps are working(not me though.yeah)in retail, service industry,so really unless like myself and the firm closes for 2 weeks, most people are at work.

Have a looksie over boxing day,the worst road to travel is to the warehouse, brisco, rebel sports etc, seems our favourite holiday ideal is shopping.

The road toll for last year was 371. So thats more than one per day.

The hols toll was 13 over 13 days. So its LESS dangerous during the hols (or no more than)

Too many ignorant jurno's interviewing their keyboards me thinks.

I have a better idea. Why not have regional passports & border checkpoints were a fee has to be paid for an entry stamp. Using the Police & ACC statistical analysis model the higher the percentage of accidents in a given region over the national average means that drivers from that region pay significantly more for their entry permits. The revenue collected from them being used to off set the greater risk they represent when not sat at home.
This would deter poor people with below average driving skills who prefer to celebrate national holidays "en masse" at only a handful of destinations from leaving their neighborhoods & minimising congestion at peak times for others with more imagination.
