I'm a cat rescuer - on monday I was following a car when I saw a kitten drop down and tumble onto the road,it must have climbed up into the engine bay to sleep. It rolled, got up and ran to the otherside of the road,so I picked it up and took it to my daughter, she does kitten fostering for the SPCA.All limbs, claws and teeth seemed to be working, but there was a bit of blood on it's nose. She was due to take her kittens back,so took this one too....it was feral, but only about 6 weeks old, hopefully some fostering care will turn it around.
Dusty turned up just before Xmas in 2009...she was known to us as she lived 2 doors up.They moved, but dusty didn't,and has been a good friend of mine since. Her favourite place is on my computer desk, like right now...she can sit right in front of me and get all my attention.
The next guy turned up late last year, about a year old tom cat...and I suspect in similar circumstances, his family moved.People don't moved far in a small town of rental accommodation, and cats return home.He fell in love with Dusty, and wants to be where ever she is...and she seems to tolerate him to within a metre. He was also desperate for human attention....so I did the humane thing and had him neutered. If she is Dusty, then he is smokey...so he's called Smokey Joe.The wildness seems to have gone in the few months he's been taken in,he has filled out and looking real healthy.
Being an ex tom,he's a tough guy and full of muscle...he's not soft and floppy like most cats.He has a good tactic for dealing with tom cats - he stands tall and gets really into their face, nose to nose.To take a swipe at him they have to move back, then it's all over.He used to be covered in scars...now he never loses.
