Apparently they can be rebuilt. Talk to a local suspension shop, such as Linton at Dirt Action Specialists or Red at RRR (St Asaph St).
Put an Ohlins in it. There, beat ya R/T
I'm pretty sure they can rebuild it too though.

Thanks for the plug! As some but not all people realise we are absolutely not all about Ohlins. Personally I have been rebuilding and servicing suspension units of almost all types for over 25 years and my very capable sidekick Dennis Shaw has been doing so even longer.
This is the kind of stuff we do day in day out. If Im sent some images of the shock ( to robert@crownkiwi.co.nz ) and in particular nice clear images of the main shaft I can make a call on whether its viable and economically affordable to rebuild before there is any committment on anyones part.
Note that for many of these bikes we can now build a base spec Ohlins shock for $999 gst inclusive, perhaps still a wee bit more expensive than budget shocks such as Ikon, YSS and Hagon but way better in quality, function and longevity
