I was crossing the road this morning when the green man changed to flashing red part way across, this nut case who was obviously a bit juced up this morning (probably every morning), charged his bike towards these old ladies in front on my wife and I, stopping inches away. It was pretty daunting even for me and I normally wouldn't blink at that sort of thing. One of the poor ladies (the closest to the bike) buckled over appearing to having some sort of anxiety attack. The other lady helped her to the side of the road where she continued to look in some amount of distress.
This biker rudely barged past having completed his morning assault on the pedestrians of Wellington, discontent with life but at least ready to face another day at the grind. As he did so I tapped him on the arm. He obviously seized this additional opportunity to show how tough he was so turned around, parked up and proceeded to flip his lid in quite an epic and spectacular fashion. I haven't seen a man that out of control of his mental state in quite some time. It was pretty scary and my wife [very] bravely put herself in between us. I pointed out that his victim was STILL half petrified to death and trying to recover on the sidewalk but the lunatic didn't seem particularly interested in this mundane observation.
What's more, from his verbal tirade, it would seem his justification was that the flashing man was red... Yes, it was. It had changed to red partway across the road. The flashing red means pedestrians are able to finish crossing! It's not an invitation to use ones vehicle as a weapon!
I mean, what a terrible advocate for the motorcycling fraternity! I often wonder why us motorcyclists have such a bad reputation... I've always suspected it was a very small minority that was ruining it for everyone else. Well that suspicion was fairly well proven this morning. You can add another 50 odd people to the list of those that probably would rather see motorcyclists become a statistic - very sad!
Interesting way to start the morning anyway.
