Am I being dumb here, but if you steal a bike, how do you manage to get change of ownership papers? Presumably you don't, because alarms would go off if you tried? And without papers the dealer wouldn't touch it?

Seems that is how it should work am I just being niave?

And $400, fuck me that's hardly going to convert a hardened criminal.

They usually get stripped for parts. The VIN and any other identifying features will then be ground off the frame to make it harder for the authorities to prove that the vehicle in question was stolen.

Thieving cunt previously of Pukekohe stole my trailer with 2 race bikes on it. The cop I dealt with said he knew Sean did it but couldn't prove it. I got back a pile of cut up bits spray bombed black.
This happened a long time ago but I still hate the light fingered cunt and would like nothing better than to hear he got hit by a train or similar.

Go into a Land Transport office, or you can do it online I think. But you need to pay and they will take your details (ruling out any vigilante behaviour).

you can use Carjam.co.nz online or go to the post office show some ID and pay a couple of bucks for the info...........but the post office will notify whoever that plate belongs to that someone has done a search on it.

Give me your rego, and I can change your bike into my name right now, in ten minutes flat over the internet. its that easy. Cops probably dont bother checking the reg'd owner, because reg'd owner does not constitute ownership, so they probably wouldnt even look into that side of it

The registered owner is just the person that gets the bills sent to them, proof of ownership is a reciept to prove you bought it.

Not sure of the spelling. There are many ways of spelling Sean, Shaun, Shaugn, Ginty, Ghinty, Gintee... from Pukekohe or there abouts. Fuck him he knows who he is!
