Triumph selling “more bikes over 500cc than any other manufacturer” in UK

Triumph has continued to outperform in the motorcycle sector, increasing sales by 1.5% to 7,562 bikes last year – compared to an overall slump of 14%. This allowed Triumph to make the boast they are selling more bikes over 500cc in the UK than any other manufacturer in the UK.

Guy Masters, general manager of Triumph UK, insisted: "The overall market continues to decline and, although we've bucked the trend over the past 12 months, we're far from complacent."

Triumph now has 16% of the overall market share in the UK.

No they dont. They dont have anything under 675.

Which actually strengthens their position. All of the "big four" have models in the 599-650 market adding to their figures that Triumph don't even have a model in.

Looking at all the Street Trip[les and 675 Daytonas running around here I'd say their market strengthening is probably similar in NZ.

    WT,

Word is there's a 125 on the way.

Triumph are missing out on sales in Asia, what with that and some of their bikes being assembled in Thailand. A small Triumph for the Asian market (and others) seems to make sense.

A new Tiger Cub or perhaps a Terrier?

They did a small bore two stroke possibly 175 back in the 70s - the Rapido, enduro/trailbike thing.
But that was a Harley, and this is a Triumph thread, so...
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

All the Japanese, American, Korean, Chinese etc sell their bikes here. Don't read it as "UK manufacturers", that isn't what it says. That they are selling more bikes over 500cc in the UK than any other manufacturer - period - is a big thing, and a real achievement.

As for the 125cc thing - if they do make a small bike, I reckon it would be for Asian markets only. But I'd be surprised if they do - they're a premium brand over there for one (align with Harley and BMW... and remember, Triumph will be a brand they know in newly cash-rich India), and it doesn't really fit in with their brand image.

But... if we want to get the rumour mill going... they did think about calling the Tiger 800 the 'Tiger Cub', but decided not to use it. Saving the name for another purpose perhaps?
