    cowboyz R2 effort.

Well.. to start with I thought today was going to be an awesome day. Finally got a fine weekend and the bike ready for a race without any problems. I woke up this morning a bit earlier than I wanted to and run round doing everything and getting nothing done really. I thought I had everything when 86 picked me up and we were just about to head off when I realised I had left my leathers behind. Bugger. Right.. Making sure I had everything we headed to the track and got the bikes checked and signed in.

    Qualifying.

got a clear track out in front and the bike felt good. Having no one around and only 8 bikes on the track makes it hard to figure if its quick or not so just concentrating on the basics and putting the bike into the corners and getting braking markers sorted. Qualifeid 3rd with a 1.22.782. Previous best was in the 23s so real pleased about that. and the bike felt real good doing it

    Race 1.

Start was pretty good. I quite like getting the 9 off the line. Had a pretty good one and went into T1 2nd or 3rd. With half the field qualifying real close together I thought it was going to be some real close racing and I was loving it till lap 2 turn 1 where someone outbraked themselves and run right into the side of me. I was leaning into the corner and all I saw was a front wheel locked up hitting my knee. I stood the bike up and did a major left turn and went for a tiki tour in the kitty litter for a while and come back on the track in last place. Fuck it. I was really hoping for a top 3 finish. Took till the hairpin to go fuck it. Im just going for a personal best laptime instead and before I knew it I was back into 5th on the white flag. Took 2 more on the last lap to finish in 3rd with a fastest time of 1.21.664 7 seconds behind position 2 and figure losing 12 seconds on my tiki tour I really did have a chance at a 2nd place. Stoked with a 3rd though and come in really amped.

    Race 2.
Now I had thoughts about a second place finish. I had worked it out so all I had to do is more of the same and stay out of trouble and it would be all good. I dont have the laptimes for this race cause mylaps wont show me for some reason but it was pretty non-eventful race circulating and finishing in 3rd. I wasnt catching the leaders or losing any ground to them so trying about as hard as I could I put in a solid 3rd place.

All in all... I had an awesome day. Rough figures show me that 18 out of the 24 laps I did was faster than my previous best and all laps were getting with in a second or so.. so real happy with a bit of consistancy. Awesome day.. Bring on Taupo!

You were looking good out there, i really enjoyed the laps i was chacing you in qualifying. Quite funny they you went for a skate off the track though. In the same race, i came out of turn one and had a gearbox full of neutrals, i couldnt get it into a gear until it got down to walking speed, i couldnt beleive you didnt pass me then, now i know why. Catch you at round 3. Dan

Totally great comeback Lance. I was on the embankment so missed the incident itself. You were 3rd, then last, then 3rd again. Very nice!

Great comeback in R1 Lance. I had the best seat in the house for your T1 T-boning and excursion... I was right behind Richard and his R6 when he clanged into the side of you. But hey, great that both of you were able to keep them up and running. Surprised the hell out of me later on when you showed your nose coming in to Dunlop about one lap from the end... I thought I was rid of that green heap of shit for the race ;-)

And the good news is that I have the timing sheet here for R2... You did a 1:21.420 (new PB?) on L7, and for laps 4,5,6 & 7 you were consistently in the 21's.

Good on ya man, and great racing with you!

    Cheers

never count the green machine out!.. The bike is just getting better with age!. touchign 160,000km and only just run in.
1.21.420 is my best on a transponder. I have some very unofficial stop watch times on trackdays in the 20s. yesterday was the most comfortable and fastest I been for a really long time. awesome to be feeling like a race with some really close racing (sometimes just a bit too close) rather than just circulating.
brign on Taupo! Its going to be super awesome!

    Red face Sorry.

Good effort Lance. Trust me I was happy you were there to save my ass at turn one but also glad to see you not come off when you were forced to run off the track!. I was in full mini panic mode trying to stay in front of Mark and locked up the rear, then the front, then the rear again...What a mess!. Top marks on catching us all back up again for a well deserved 3rd (Should have been second... sorry )
Good luck for Taupo might see you there.

it all good. no hard feelings. bit of no harm no foul really. and its amazing how much you can learn about your bike with a bit of red mist about. I really think you did me a huge favour really! I have never ridden Taupo.. (not even a trackday) so its going to be super interesting!

If you have never ridden Taupo, make sure you are there for the Open day on the Saturday, as you will get lots of laps in. I will hope to have the classes running thru rather fast to you all get maximum sessions
