Commission of inquiry into Police conduct

    With all the news coverage, I'm surprised we haven't had much comment on the report into the operation of the Police. Haven't had a chance to read it myself yet, for those keen;

    This is the actual report:
    http://www.police.govt.nz/sites/defa...port_final.pdf

    This is the Police response.

I was expecting this to have been discussed yesterday. Just adds more to the downgrading of respect for the Police

    First lines of their response:

Police acknowledge the need for traction around culture changes within the underlying context of a healthy organisation, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Viv Rickard, said today.
I wonder if they should be charged with sustained of traction?

Goddamned corporate PC weasel words! Is nobody able to release a press statement in English anymore?
    Keep on chooglin'

So Rob Pope has responded by chucking his toys and retiring so (paging Skyryder) what are the odds on the Scott Watson case being reopened?

If you want an example of ineptitude being promoted "out of the way" you need to look no further than Howard broad or the Heads of Road policing, past and present.

The process of appointing the next Commissioner looks like it's going to get interesting too.

Subsequent reports say that he was told not to bother re-applying.

yes you could, you would be in the highest tax bracket though.

I was alluring to the process of appointment not necessarily fitting who someone wants, who isn't in a position choose, under our legal system.

When they have to invest in the job up front I don't think they would be naive to know what they are in for.

Exactly the Police need to be able to operate without every wanker and his dog screaming Police brutality or "they caused that kid to crash and burn becauses they chased him" its a wonder anyone wants to do the job these days. NZ has turned into a mamby pamby over pc-ized country. people stop ham stringing the cops.

You're not wrong there, but shit heads are working at all different levels from the zealot at the IPCA to the system savy legal aid lawyers to the rat bag gang bangers who know the systems and how to play them. I spoke to an ex UK cop not long ago who said the place they had to be most PC was in their own meal and locker rooms as there were 'spies' both personal and electronic waiting to report anything and everything. There was no safe haven for the poor buggers to get the stress off their chest. Hope here in godzone we're not that bad.... yet!

Police could regain a lot of the respect they used to enjoy if they went after the real criminals with the same zealotry they apply to road policing. I do understand that the directive for the emphasis on road policing comes from the top, possibly because the revenue potential of road work, where pure criminal investigation is all cost, no profit.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.
