    Travelling north

Driving and towing bikes Auckland to Kaihohe. Wises maps says to turn left at Otaika Vally and head thru Maungatapere and Titoki rather than State 1. Says it's a 3 hour drive. Was wondering if any of you have driven that road... looks hellishly windy and with a trailer would it be quicker (more pleasant) to stay on the main rd?

Road is in good condition and a great road by bike, certainly more twists in it than SH 1 but less cops if that is any issue. Towing, i would personally take SH1.

+1 Better being bored in traffic on SH1 than making broom broom noises & wishing you were on your bike on the middle road. Mind you it is very pretty & with very little traffic. It has a couple of places just before the twin bridges which are single lane due to slips. If you have a good truck & trailer you might enjoy it. It comes out right in the middle of Kaikohe.

    Flip a coin.

Most of the road is fairly open & "swoopy" rather than twisty but their are some proper twisty bits. Not like the Waipoua Forest or Mangamukas though.

I'd go SH1 if it was me towing. On the bike, other way for sure.
