So it's ok to for a bunch of guys to "take him out" if they want his Big Mac?

    Indeed.
Its a sad day when people can't even ask for help. And feel they HAVE to threaten people.

I'm not trying to concoct a Robin Hood situation - but the possibility exists

I never said that - but people do have the ethics they can afford. In most of my ethics classes a student will usually ask: "Is it OK to steal food to feed your family?" OR: "Is it OK to steal medicine your family needs if you can't afford it?"

There are people out there confrotnded by those questions every day. What would you do? Would you steal to feed your family if you were forced into that situation?

Property is property - but life is life - why do we value property over life?

Can someone fetch the smelling salts and a chair for Mr Hitcher, please?

Why ? It's just as likely as what others will be thinking ...

Because small time property theft has accidentally turned into a manslaugter charge at times. There are other avenues in NZ for getting help that don't require accosting people in the street merely going about their business.

If we were in the middle of a civil war, and the regular lines of help had completely broken down, then yes I would steal, or even kill, for my family. We are currently a long long way away from justifying that sort of response though.

In your nice white middle class world you are ... others are not so lucky ... and yet - you have suggested circumstances under which you would steal .. and even kill ... Others do not share that level of ethics .. they can't afford to ...

Maybe these are just kids with parents who've spent all their money on drugs and alcohol and the kids are hungry enough to try it on - and don't know where to get help ... aren't old enough ...

Maybe they are just scumbags ... I'll admit there are those around ...

Most don't. What made you think that setting a dog on someone is their limit.

e.g. try to steal my food and I will hurt you.
try to take my life and you may lose yours.

Someone just needs to try and keep him away from this thread. It surely will not be good for his health

I don't know what gives you the impression that they're my mates. I certainly don't know them.
