Vodafone isn't a New Zealand company, why should they be obliged to employ New Zealanders?

Vodafone is actually Egyptian for telephone. The riots are because 3 of the 4 call centres are in some third world backwater called New Zealand.

Has anyone notice that what we have observed on TV is so very like The Clash's "Rock the Casbah" played out in real life?

......The king called up his jet fighters
He said you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
    Down the Casbah way

As soon as the shareef was
    Chauffeured outta there
    The jet pilots tuned to
    The cockpit radio blare

As soon as the shareef was
    Outta their hair
    The jet pilots wailed.......

It doesn't get much more New Zealand than "Vodafone NEW ZEALAND". They, VFNZ trade here under that name, sell their product exclusively to NZers so in many ways they should employ NZers.

What is wrong with the concept of companies that are trading in NZ, making a profit in NZ (and this one aint cheap), employing those that live in NZ?

Looking down the barrel of 17% GST and warnings about the country going broke, and if your apathy (head in the sand) is indicative of a majority, then we are to continue heading down a slippery slope. Even a motorcycle will be priced beyond the reach of the average Kiwi.

However 17% GST will be a big help to pay our social welfare bill.
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

Vodafone is a global corporation and for one I wouldn't expect them to give two shits out of a curry plant catepillars arse about NZ. If you want to support NZ, buy NZ products (if there is a choice, and in this case there is).....

"He is apologising for any delays customers experience "

So what else is new? One of the major beefs I have with Vodafone is that whenever there is a problem, they are impossible to get hold of. Delays? Hell, even without trouble in Egypt I have spent gazillions of minutes waiting for someone to answer a call...

The thing is, as with most other 'service providers' in this country, what are you going to do?

You're going to complain, you're going to tell your friends, who will all nod their heads and sympathise, but come the end of the month, you will suck it up and pay the bill, because there is no other viable choice.

In fact I didn't even choose vodafone for internet purposes. The company I originally signed up with was gobbled up by another company which was in turn gobbled up by vodafone (wave - ihug - vodafone)

I should add that I did choose Vodafone for mobile service over the then only other option, Telecon. (No that's not a typo...)

The bright side of speaking to a CSR in Egypt, over one in South Auckland.. At least you're likely to be able to deciper what they're saying.
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

They'll employee Kiwi's as soon as their customers tell them they are prepared to pay for for it.

Most people just want their phone service to work for as little as possible. So companies like Vodafone are responding and giving their customers exactly what they want.
