An injury ... but how ironic

Ahhh the delicious irony! After we spent a fair bit of the weekend cruising around the wild streets of Christchurch risking life and limb on my 'two wheeled death machine' (as my daughter used to call it), my wife walks outside this morning and trips on the step, breaking her leg.

    Go figure!

But how great is the human body? The endorphines and adrenalin must have really done their job because she was telling me about it over the phone lying at the foot of the steps waiting for the ambulance to arrive with the bottom part of her leg pointing in a direction other than normal ... and she was chuckling away sounding quite relaxed about the whole thing ... although she admitted it hurt a bit. Perhaps that's why I thought she was joking when she casually responded to my opening "how are ya?" when she rang, with "Oh fine ... I've just broken my leg" ... a bit like "did the dishes, hung the washing out, broke my leg..."

Isn't that the way it is? That sort of came out in the "motorcycling injury" thread last week. My worst injury is still one that happened at home. If I'd been wearing my bike gear at the time, I would've been completely uninjured.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I've a few injuries where the person giving first-aid was freaking out worst than me... Once I had to ring my brother (different dept at work) to come and fix me because the first aid guy was shaking too much.

I was scared one time when a bearing exploded and a little peice went into my neck... the blood pissed out, i couldnt speak and for the first time in my life thought I was in the thick shit.

    But then I lived...

I have the occasional we misshap, the love of my life rang one day to let me know she was running late...Her: "hello darling, be about 1/2 late" me: "I'v broken my fucking finger again!" Her: "Himm, so whats for dinner?" Do you think shes used to me in pain? Two weeks later she slamed her fingers in a car door. He he he...

Ah well. She has an op tomorrow to have pins and a plate inserted. Then has a cast on for at least 6 weeks ... so I guess I'm going to be riding by myself for awhile.

Speedy recovery, glad to hear she wasn't in as much pain as she could have been!

My experience of the pain of a broken leg was the same, and I had the added benefit of having all four ends of my broken tibia and fibula poking out.
As an interesting aside, people who have been stabbed don't describe the feeling as being a stabbing pain, but more like getting hit with a baseball bat.
And bullet impacts are often not felt at all,so much for Hollywood being accurate.
