Yep, but not everyone wants to be a racer. Some of us know we'll never be fast enough to mix it up on the track, or even if we were money/time/dedication stop us from competing, but why should that stop us/them from enjoying our bikes on the road. Also there is a satisfaction from riding somewhere, at pace, and stopping at the destination for a chin wag, then repeat on the way home. You don't get that at the track.

I think when this was written they were actually using real stones, which tended to hurt, which could cost you your arse, so you had to be careful.

Since then every pimply knobhead has tried to use it as a get out of jail free card for whatever carnage they cause on the basis that none of the victims of said carnage was actually the baby Jesus on a bicycle and so, being flawed human beings, somehow deserved all the shit that they got and should just shut up and take it.

Ergo, it is impossible to judge the situation with any certainty at all.

I have suggested a couple of different possibilities that do not condone them being on the wrong side of the road, but might explain them just as well as, "the three idiots racing".
