Thumbs down TV3 news report police say...

the motorcyclist killed in Auckland this morning by a u-turning truck may have survived if wearing a hi-vis jacket.
What a load of crap. The motorcyclist may have survived if the truck driver had been half awake and actually looked rather than asuming nothing was passing him. I will be very interested to see if the truck was actually indicating or if he just decided to turn a whim.

Police and media packing together to make us look bad. Bastards
He may have survived if he slept in for an extra 5 minutes as well.

    What's the point in speculating?

One hopes MAG jumps on that and issues a Press release castigating the Police for pointless speculation in the face a family losing a loved one to another road user's carelessness.

Not only that it needs to be pointed out that motorcycles HAVE to have their headlight on. If there is a bright source of illumination in front of the reflective clothing then the reflective clothing isn't able to reflect anything. If the truck "driver" (I use the term reluctantly, as I'd prefer to label the offender something a little more piquant) didn't see a 65-100W light source then he wasn't going to see a reflective vest.

I dare MAG to do it. Nyah.

I hope the next cage accident in similar circumstances prompts the police to comment "that accident may have been avoided if the car had been painted neon yellow"

It's a News item on TV3. It isn't up yet, but the full bulletin will be up once the "News" is over.

    Ohhhhhh, so that's the solution......!

So covering the truck (fire) in fluro vests will make cars see it....because the FLASHING traffic lights, beacons, sirens, horn, it being red and pretty big and covered in reflective tape does'nt seem to make it all that fucken visible either, the solution is here, staple flouro vests all over it........

Fix a computer and it'll break tomorrow.
Teach its owner to fix it and it'll break in some way you've never seen before.

    Even though I started this

we still should not jump to conclusions as well.
Maybe the bike rider didn't have a light on, maybe the truck indicated and the bike went round anyway, maybe the bike was speeding???????????
My beef is the the fluro/hi-vis bit was highlighted as a saver rather than the truck driver looking properly. The whole safety campaign seems to be targeted at bikers but bugger all seems to be said about cage drivers who "don't see" bikes.
Christ, in Australia they even had an add on TV showing/encouraging drivers to open doors on lane splitting bikes. It was a Supercheap add and was pulled by their broardcasting authority. It's not just bikers that are causing the crashes we are involved in but it only seems to be us that gets all the attention
