    Stolen zippo.

    Ok,
So something happened to me last night, and I don't think i've ever been so angry.
I was at work at 3 in the morning (nightclub) and a couple of guys come down, tell them we're closed and they were fine with it, 1 of them asks to borrow a lighter, i give him my zippo, he lights his smoke and hands it to his mate, who lights his and continues to play with it.
My workm8 comes outside and starts chatting to them and about 5 minutes later they decide to leave.
I ask him for my lighter back and he ignores me, and starts walking, I follow him up the street and ask him for it again, he refuses to even admit he still has it and continues walking away. Catch up to him and ask him to empty his pockets, he refuses. At this point I'm fuming and wondering what the f**k to do. He's with a friend and im alone, I'm not exactly the biggest guy ever.
I was doing him a favour by letting them use it....
What do you do in a situation like that??
My instinct says smak him over,
my brain says calm down and let it go....
I'd had it for 7 years......

That fuckin sucks , I hate thieving cunts like that.

I would of just smacked the "FUCKER" , But violence does`nt solve anything.

Unfortunately in your situation you really could`nt have done anything , just have to take it on the chin and never lend anyone you don`t know your Zippo.

    Always carry matches.

And a bottle of lighter fluid to squirt over the bastard. He will soon give it back.

I'm just curious at what extent you can go to to recover your property from some wanker without getting yourself in the shit. It's not like i can call the cops and tell them a drunk person stole my lighter, id get laughed at, yet on the other hand, i cant use it as an excuse to assault someone either....
Where do i stand?? No doubt i'll see him again, and if i can recover it i will.

Essentially the rules of equal force come into play..

If he doesn't use any force against you, you can't use any against him.

It's all a rather grey area dependent on the situation, personally I would of just hit him and dealt with the consequences, but I guess the smartest thing to do would be to follow him from a distance, call the police on a cell phone, ask for advice on whether or not you are allowed to 'restrain' him until they arrive, and act from there.

The police have no right to turn you away, theft is theft, no matter what it is.

Should have taken a photo of him and gone straight to the cops, you can also go around handing it out to door men at the bars around where you work and tell them he's been stealing shit and not paying for drinks.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

If you think your call to the police is not very worthy ring the local police station, not 111. Its there job. Its what you pay for with your tax's.
Chances are this guy doesn't have a clean criminal record, so your complaint against him may help put him away longer when he next goes to court, Or maybe he'll turn into a nice guy.

Your opportunity to recover your zippo went out the door the moment the dude did not hand it back immediately. It is ciggie lighter, yes "zippo", yes had for years. Best advice here, if it was that "special" to you, why hand it over anyway? Bic Flick rules

Pathetic thread in R&R. Really a non-returned lighter????

    I give up!
