Maybe something like, tax free and 1/4 price would be better.

I think my tax dollars already pay too much towards beneficiaries as it is (think about covering the building costs, staff wages etc).

By the way I'm pretty sure Auckland Uni has been running something for some time now, only that its supplied by food donations rather than by the big chain supermarkets. For that you get one free package (about 3 days worth of food I think) and if you go back for more you need to take income statements showing that you are actually financially in the shit.

Not sure where the "free" supermarkey is in Welly, but there is (was?) an outlet over Kilbirnie way that sold stock that was close to its "best by" date really cheap. Packaged goods mainly.

No staff wages, my brother volunteers at the Wellington one. Can't remember what the deal is re building costs but it's not too expensive for them.

I think it's an excellent concept and it seems to have worked well so far. I know of a few people who use it and they are the ones that need it...

It may seem rediculous how much goes on social welfare but life isn't necessarily easy for those using it. Not all are using it by choice either, and they do actually look for jobs... I suppose it's the whole 'rather have a few abusing the system than have all going without' philosophy.

Probably no relation, but I grew up as friends of the family name of some interviewed - they certainly weren't freeloaders, and they weren't fat either. What can happen in one generation.

I wondered while watching cambell live how many people actually do need it,I reckon they need to figure out some criteria to get into the free store!

Yes, open for nearly 3 weeks I think. I went past a few times but it was never open or stocked.
