I remember their racket from summers on the east coast, they seem quieter now, if anything.

I'm just amazed that someone thought to put 7 minutes of cicadas and 9 minutes of cricket sounds onto youtube.

    Yep!
There are no cicadas over here, but, on a summers afternoon, I can lie back and imagine I'm in NZ.........

Well...yer. That too. Beats the alternative.

'Scuse my higgerance, but what's the difference between a cricket and a cicada? If any.

A cricket is a Honda CBR600RF and a Cicada is a Yamaha Venture Royale, comparatively speaking.

    About deafening at times.

Speak up, I can't hear you over the noise here!!!!! The little tree eating buggers are so loud at the moment. Bring on the rain (only when I am sleeping and on my days at work of course....).

    Time to and

I have tons of little black crickets in the grass hopping all over the place and "trimming the lawn and paddock grass".

The cicadas are usually larger winged beasts that cling to branches and gnaw them to bits while making their rather loud noises. They do quite a bit of damage to smaller trees.

Having said that I would not trade living rural for anything. I love it out here.
